Cipriano Facchinetti

Cipriano Facchinetti (born January 13, 1889 in Campobasso , Campobasso province , Molise , † February 17, 1952 in Rome) was an Italian politician of the Partito Repubblicano Italiano (PRI). Among other things, he was Minister of Defense .

Life

Facchinetti, who worked as a journalist , was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) of the Kingdom of Italy on May 24, 1924, as a candidate for the Partito Repubblicano Italiano, and belonged to it from the 25th to the end of the 27th legislative period on January 29, 1929.

In June 1928 he succeeded Mario Bergamo as secretary of the PRI and held this position until his replacement by Raffaele Rossetti in March 1932. He held the office of PRI secretary again between 1935 and his replacement by Ottavio as the successor to Giuseppe Chiostergi Abbati in April 1938, where he shared this office with Mario Angeloni until July 1936 . Finally he acted as Abbati's successor between July 1938 and his replacement by Mario Carrara in January 1942 again as secretary of the PRI and this time held this office together with Randolfo Pacciardi .

After the end of the Second World War , as a representative of the Democrazia Cristiana , he became a member of the National Council (Consulta Nazionale) on September 25, 1945 and then on June 25, 1946 a member of the Constituent Assembly (Assemblea Costituente) , of which he was a member until March 31, 1948 . During his membership in parliament he was from June to July 1946 member of the electoral committee (Giunta delle elezioni) .

On July 13, 1946, Prime Minister Alcide De Gasperi appointed him Minister of War (Ministro della Guerra) in the latter's second cabinet , to which he was a member until February 2, 1947. From February 8, 1947, he was chairman of the PRI faction in the Constituent Assembly.

A few months later, on December 15, 1947, Facchinetti took over the post of Minister of Defense (Ministro della Difesa) in the fourth cabinet of Prime Minister De Gasperi and held this office until May 23, 1948.

On May 8, 1948 he became a member of the newly created Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) and was a member of this as a representative of the PRI until his death.
