Dungannon and South Tyrone ( Irish Dún Geanainn agus Tír Eoghain Theas ) was one of the 26 Northern Irish districts that existed from 1973 to 2015 and comprised a large part of the traditional County Tyrone as well as a small part of County Armagh . In the district, which had the status of a borough , in addition to the administrative center of Dungannon , the places Coalisland , Augher , Clogher , Fivemiletown , Ballygawley , Caledon , Aughnacloy , Benburb , and Moy were located . From 1973 to 1999 the district was only called Dungannon . On April 1, 2015, he went on in the new District Mid Ulster , with a small part Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon was added.

About 56,400 people lived in the district; A good 60% described themselves as Catholic , around 38% as Protestant .

The Motorway M1 from Belfast leads to Dungannon and continues in the highway A4. The A5 trunk road from Omagh to Monaghan in the Republic of Ireland crosses the A4 at Ballygawley . A rail link does not exist.

tourism

Coalisland has a local museum ( Cornmill Heritage Center ) and a house near Carnteel commemorates the ancestors of US President Ulysses S. Grant . East of Dungannon is the Peatlands Country Park , west of the Parkanaur Forest Park .
