Ebenezer Seaver

Ebenezer Seaver (born July 5, 1763 in Roxbury , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  March 1, 1844 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1803 and 1813 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ebenezer Seaver was born in what is now the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston . He studied at Harvard University until 1784 and then worked in agriculture. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . Between 1794 and 1802 he was an MP in the Massachusetts House of Representatives .

In the congressional election of 1802 Seaver was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 13th constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Peleg Wadsworth , who moved to the 15th district, on March 4, 1803 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1813 . During his tenure as a congressman in 1803, the Louisiana Purchase greatly expanded United States territory. In 1804 the twelfth amendment was ratified. Since 1812, the events of the British-American War also overshadowed the work of Congress.

In 1812, Ebenezer Seaver was not re-elected. After the founding of the state of Maine , whose territory had previously belonged to Massachusetts, he was a delegate to the convention to adapt the state constitution to the new circumstances in 1820 . In the years 1822, 1823 and 1826 he was again a member of the state parliament. He died in Roxbury on March 1, 1844.
