Faryab ( Pashto / Dari :فاریاب) is a province in the north of Afghanistan .

The population was estimated to be 998,100 in 2015. The capital is called Maimana .

In the 1980s and 1990s, violent clashes between various military leaders took place in Faryab. Faryab was particularly important because the border between the areas of influence of Abdul Raschid Dostum and Ismail Khan ran through this province.
