history
During the colonial period, the flag of Portugal was used on Cape Verde . In 1967 there was a proposal to add the respective coat of arms of the colony to the flag of Portugal for the colonies . However, the proposal was not implemented.
The first national flag of Cape Verde was hoisted on July 5, 1975 and confirmed on April 19, 1976. The similarity of the pan-African style flag with the flag of Guinea-Bissau expressed the bond with Guinea-Bissau. The emblem with the corn wreath around the black star and the shell indicates the main income of the state, corn cultivation and fishing.
