The Erzincan Airport ( Turkish Erzincan Havalimanı ) is a Turkish airport near the city of Erzincan . It is operated by the state DHMI . The city of Erzincan assigned to him is about six to eight kilometers away. It can be reached by taxi, private car or airport bus via the E80 trunk road.
history
The airport was opened in 1988 and was only used for military purposes at first. The airport was equipped with two runways and numerous hangars for the combat aircraft. Over time, its own fire brigade was set up and a section of the gendarmerie opened.
In 2006 the airport was extensively renovated. The apron and one runway were expanded, the terminal renovated, a control tower built and the facilities around the airport renewed. Now that the airport has met all international standards to be able to offer passenger flights, Turkish Airlines started the first flights.
The new terminal was opened in 2011. The old terminal is now open to business travelers as well as government personnel.
Airport grounds
The airport has a terminal with a capacity of 3,250,000 passengers per year, a control tower with a height of 28 meters and an active paved runway, which however does not have an instrument flight landing system (ILS). The second runway at the airport was closed. The apron has a size of 120 × 45 meters and can accommodate a larger airliner. There is a parking lot for 200 cars in front of the terminal. The airport was one of the first handicapped accessible airports in Turkey. In addition, it has been a "Green Airport" since 2015, which indicates that the airport is energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
At the moment the airport can only be reached by car or taxi. But a new tram network is planned for Erzincan, one of which will also serve the airport. There is also a project to build a cable car from the airport to the Ergan ski area.
