Gerhard Eck (born January 24, 1960 in Schweinfurt ) is a Bavarian politician . As a member of the CSU , he has been a member of the Bavarian State Parliament since 1998 . From October 14, 2009 to March 24, 2020, Eck was State Secretary in the State Ministry of the Interior and a member of the Bavarian State Government , and since then he has served as State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care in the Söder II cabinet until June 30, 2020 . Since July 1, 2020 he has been State Secretary in the State Ministry of the Interior again.

Life

education and profession

After attending primary and secondary school from 1966 to 1975, Eck completed an apprenticeship as a draftsman from 1975 to 1978. From 1979 to 1981 he was a qualified mason apprentice.

Party career

Eck has been a member of the CSU since 1984 and was active in his party in many board positions. Since 1997 he has been CSU district chairman in Schweinfurt-Land and since 1997 a CSU member in the district executive committee. In 2011 he was elected district chairman of the CSU Lower Franconia. Eck is a member of the defense policy working group of the CSU, which particularly represents the interests of the Bavarian arms industry.

Public offices

Eck was for his party between 1984 and 1990 in the municipal council of Donnersdorf and then from 1990 to 2009 1st mayor of the municipality of Donnersdorf. Eck has been a district councilor in the district council of the Schweinfurt district since 1996 .

Eck has been a member of the state parliament since September 28, 1998. Eck represents the constituency of Schweinfurt ( constituency of Lower Franconia ).

As the successor to the resigned Bernd Weiß , Prime Minister Horst Seehofer appointed him as State Secretary in the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior on October 13, 2009. He also held the office in the Söder I and Söder II cabinets .

With effect from March 24, 2020, Eck moved to the Bavarian Ministry of Health as State Secretary to strengthen the fight against the corona pandemic .

Relatives affair

On May 3, 2013, the President of the Bavarian State Parliament, Barbara Stamm (CSU), published a list of names of MPs who employed first-degree relatives (spouses, parents, children). Eck, who hired his wife in 1998, also appeared on this list.

Eck is a Roman Catholic, married and has two children.

Eck rejected the inclusion of parts of the Steigerwald Nature Park in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Program by being rededicated as a national park . Eck is chairman of the anti-national park association “Our Steigerwald”.
