background

I Wanna Go was written by Shellback, Max Martin, and Savan Kotecha and produced by Martin and Shellback. On February 22, 2011, Spears posted a 29-second excerpt of the song on Twitter and described Martin as "amazing". In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in March 2011, Spears stated that she always liked the song and praised Martin for its incredible melodies : "There is no one I would rather work with than Martin." May 2011 that he wrote the song for over a year and a half. Spears' fans could vote which song should be released as the third single of their album. On May 11, 2011, she announced via Twitter that her fans had decided on I Wanna Go . Two days later, I Wanna Go was officially confirmed as the third single on the album by Spears' Jive Records . In 2011 she sang the song during her Femme Fatale tour . It is also part of their current Las Vegas show Britney: Piece of Me .

reception

I Wanna Go received mostly positive reviews. The main criticism was the similarity to other Spears songs. Rolling Stone magazine readers placed the song at number one on the summer songs of the year.

genre

I Wanna Go is a dance-pop and Hi-NRG track that contains elements of techno . The beat has been compared to that of New Orders Blue Monday (1983). In the chorus Spears sings: "III wanna go OO / All the way-ay-ay / Taking out my freak tonight".

Music video

The music video for I Wanna Go was shot by Chris Marrs Piliero from May 25th to May 28th. In addition, winners of a raffle from three radio stations in the USA were allowed to accompany Spears on the second day of shooting their music video. On June 17, 2011, Billboard announced that the video would premiere on June 22, 2011 on ET Wednesday . This means that the video still qualifies for the MTV Video Music Awards 2011, because the registration period for it ends on June 24, 2011. However, the video was not considered for a nomination, only Till the World Ends received two nominations.

content

The music video begins during a press conference where Spears is annoyed by silly or inappropriate questions from journalists such as, "Does this suit make me fat?" Angry, she leaves the conference with the words "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, fuck you - I'm out", this is a homage to the film Half Baked , in the audience you can still see the actor Guillermo Díaz , who said exactly this sentence in the film. She walks into the street and meets a fan who wants an autograph on Spear's current album Femme Fatale . After the scene, Spears is searched by a police officer for being provocative on the street. After the examination, she continues down the street, where a paparazzo photographs her. First she poses for him, then she walks up to him and destroys his camera. More paparazzi appear and she escapes and jumps onto the roof of a taxi. To defend himself, Spears takes her microphone and swings it around to then use it as a weapon against the paparazzi. In the background of the action there is also an homage to Spear's film Crossroads , on a cinema screen is the words Crossroads 2: Cross Harder . After all paparazzi have been switched off, however, they get up again and turn out to be robots. Suddenly a man appears and saves Spears by calling her into the car. During the escape, Spears dances on the passenger side. However, the driver dumps milk on his body and Spears finds out that he is also a robot. At this point the video starts again at the press conference as Spears only had one daydream. The same man from the car comes on stage, ends the press conference, and escorts Spears out of the room. Meanwhile, he turns to the camera, which shows that his eyes are glowing red. This was another tribute to Michael Jackson's thriller .
