Piece of Me is a song by the American singer Britney Spears from her fifth studio album Blackout . It was released on November 27, 2007 by Jive Records as the second single from the album. The song was written and produced by Swedish producer duo Bloodshy & Avant and Klas Åhlund .
Background and content
Piece of Me was written by the Swedish producer duo Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg (Bloodshy & Avant). They had worked with Spears before, so they learned up close and personal about their hectic, public life and constant chase from paparazzi. They were involved with the songs Radar , Freakshow and Toy Soldier on the album Blackout , which was seen as completed at the time . Nevertheless, the duo wrote the title Piece of Me in collaboration with Åhlund and mailed it to Spears; she liked it and she put it on the album.
The song processes Spear's relationship with the media and her early celebrities. So it says in one line:
I'm Miss American Dream since I was seventeen
"I've been the American dream since I was seventeen"
The song was part of her The Circus Starring: Britney Spears tour and the Femme Fatale tour . It is eponymous for her Las Vegas long-running show Britney: Piece of Me , who also sings the song.
composition
The electro-pop song is characterized by a synthesizer beat influenced by the 1980s . The singer's voice is heavily distorted. The Swedish singer Robyn can be heard in the background vocals.
Chart placements
Piece of Me continued the success of its predecessor Gimme More . Piece of Me sold over 1.9 million copies in the United States and went platinum.
In Australia and the United Kingdom, the single reached number 2 on the respective singles charts. In Australia more than 70,000 copies were sold, the single also went platinum here, while the single in Great Britain got silver for 200,000 copies sold.

The music video was shot on a budget of $ 500,000 on November 27-28, 2007 in exclusive Hollywood nightclubs and restaurants . It was the most expensive music video in Spears' career to date , after Toxic ($ 1,000,000). It was directed by Wayne Isham , who was already engaged for Spears' clip for I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman .
The video is a three-time winner of the MTV Video Music Awards 2008 , including in the category Video of the Year .
