Ilgın is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Konya . Since a regional reform in 2014 , the municipality ( Belediye ) is congruent with the district (İlçe). All previous villages ( köy ) are now districts ( Mahalle ) of the municipality. The city is located about 70 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital Konya .
The district is located in the western center of the province. It is bordered by Doğanhisar , Akşehir and Tuzlukçu to the west, Yunak to the north, Kadınhanı to the east and Selçuklu , Derbent , Beyşehir and Hüyük to the south . The D-300 highway, which connects Konya with Afyonkarahisar and Izmir , runs through the district from west to east . The city is located on the branch of the Anatolian Railway from Eskişehir to Konya, where the Baghdad Railway connects. The relatively flat district has few elevations, including the 1730 meter high Savaş Tepesi in the south and the 1641 meter high Deveboynu Tepesi in the north . To the north of the main town lies the Çavuşçu Gölü (also Ilgın Gölü ) lake , into which the Deliköyboğazı Deresi flows from the south and the Çebişli Çayı from the northwest . In the southeast there are two smaller lakes, the Gökçeyurt Göleti and the Bulcuk Göleti .
Attractions
The Hittite sanctuary of Yalburt is located about 20 kilometers north of the district town . You can see the walling of a water basin, in the stone blocks of which a campaign report of the Great King Tudhalija IV is carved.
