In the previous two years, the winner in Daqing was Mark Selby . This time he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. The prize money was increased significantly by a further £ 75,000 in 2018 . This made it the third most important tournament of the season after the World Cup and the China Open. A third of the additional money was used to increase the prize money. The remaining £ 50,000 was split into smaller amounts among the losers in the round of 32 up to the quarter-finals.
