Staff and cast

After James Bond 007: Specter , Daniel Craig initially refused to extend his expiring contract and did not want to make another James Bond film. In an interview he said that he would rather "cut his wrists" than play the British secret agent again. In August 2017, he finally accepted a £ 50 million offer and confirmed his return as James Bond in No Time to Die .

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade were announced as scriptwriters , who have worked on the scripts of all James Bond films since 1999. Christopher Nolan was also in discussion for the director's position . On May 25, 2018, Danny Boyle was announced as director that the script would be written by John Hodge . On August 21, 2018, it was announced that Boyle would not direct the sequel because the studio did not want to use the script of its regular author John Hodge.

In September 2018 it was announced that Cary Joji Fukunaga would direct. Fukunaga is thus the first American to direct a Bond film, and after Marc Forster ( Quantum of Solace ) the second Bond director who does not come from a Commonwealth country. In the same month Neal Purvis and Robert Wade were hired to revise the script. This role was later passed on to Scott Z. Burns and Phoebe Waller-Bridge . The latter was asked to revise some dialogues and to offer alternatives for other scenes. Ultimately, she should be responsible for the fact that for the first time a woman slips into the role of the British secret agent, that the word "Bond-Girl" was replaced on the set by "Bond-Woman" and that James Bond appears more modern overall, speaks to a younger target group and had to deal with the #MeToo debate. The original composer was Dan Romer , with whom Fukunaga had previously worked on various projects. However, Romer is said to have left the project in November 2019 due to creative differences. Instead, Hans Zimmer and Johnny Marr are said to be responsible for the music of a James Bond film for the first time . The title song is contributed by Billie Eilish and is titled No Time to Die .

Daniel Craig will appear as James Bond one last time in the film . Furthermore, return Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann , Ralph Fiennes as M , Ben Whishaw as Q and Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny back. Lupita Nyong'o is said to have been a so-called Bond girl in conversation, but turned down the role. In the film, James Bond is said to drive a total of four cars: an Aston Martin DB5 , the new Aston Martin Valhalla and Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage , which was first featured in the 1987 film James Bond 007 - The Living Daylights was seen. As announced in April 2019, Jeffrey Wright and Rory Kinnear are also returning to their roles from previous films. In addition to Rami Malek , who will play Bond's opponent Safin , Lashana Lynch , Billy Magnussen , Ana de Armas , David Dencik and Dali Benssalah are new . Malek's character is said to want to achieve their goals with biological warfare. The actor said he only accepted the role after director Fukunaga had assured him that Malek's role was not a terrorist of Arab origin who reflected a religion or ideology. Also Christoph Waltz will reportedly after James Bond 007: Specter have a smaller presence in the film again. Grace Jones was originally supposed to be involved in the film. Jones impersonated May Day in 1985's James Bond 007 and was supposed to have a cameo in the film, but turned away from that when she found out how small her appearance should be.

Filming

On February 22, 2019, a production list in the industry newspaper Production Weekly revealed that the film was being shot under the working title Shatterhand . The name Shatterhand refers to the pen name Guntram Shatterhand of the main villain from the James Bond novel You Only Live Twice by Ian Fleming , published in 1964 . Fleming is said to have been inspired to the name during a visit to Hamburg a few years earlier: "Shatterhand was the name of a café in the Hanseatic city - which in turn is named after the character Old Shatterhand from various Karl May novels."

In March 2019, both Ben Whishaw and Ralph Fiennes said they didn't know what the film would be about as they hadn't received a script yet. This is still in progress. Fiennes is only known that filming will take place in the same year. Naomie Harris , however, revealed that there should be a period of five years between the plot of the film and that of its predecessor James Bond 007: Specter . The first recordings were made on March 25, 2019 in Nittedal in Norway , where the film was shot until April 2. Filming officially began on April 28, 2019 in Jamaica , where the film was made in the villa of Bond creator Ian Fleming, among other places . Later recordings were made at Pinewood Studios near London . In mid-May 2019, Craig injured his ankle while sprinting in Jamaica. The actor was then flown to the United States for medical examinations, the shooting was interrupted and scheduled recordings at Pinewood Studios were canceled for the time being. Craig had to undergo minor surgery on his ankle as a result. Filming was not interrupted during Craig's two-week recovery, so the planned start date was not endangered.

Parallel to the filming in London, where the film was shot on the Whitehall , among other places , the second unit in Norway was filming on the Atlantic Road and on the Storseisund Bridge . Another incident occurred on June 4, 2019 when a crew member was slightly injured during a controlled explosion on set and the 007 stage was damaged. As The Sun reports, there should also be scheduling problems for scenes with Craig and the busy Malek. In addition, there is a conflict between the director and the rest of the crew, as Fukunaga is said to have appeared unexcused over three hours late for the shoot and then demanded to make up for the lost time through overtime on the weekend and on Father's Day. In mid-July, recordings were made in the Scottish Highlands around the Ardverikie House , which was built in the Scottish barony style , which is why accommodations for the crew were built in Aviemore . Subsequently, in August and September 2019, more than 400 employees and over 800 extras took place in the ancient Italian town of Gravina in Puglia . Recordings were also made in Matera, 23 kilometers away, and in Sapri , whose train station was temporarily closed. At the same time, nature photographs were taken around Trøllanes on the Faroe island of Kalsoy . At the beginning of October 2019, production was relocated to Oxfordshire , where a mass panic was triggered on the RAF Brize Norton, as a result of which around 400 people had to be evacuated from the base after the crew left a van on the premises after filming. In order to avoid leaks about the plot before the cinema release, Fukunaga shot three different endings, of which not even the actors knew which one would be included in the final cut. On October 26, 2019, filming was officially completed at Pinewood Studios. Overall, the budget should have been around 250 million US dollars.

The filming was attended by Prince Charles and Alex Younger , the head of the real MI6 , among others .

Marketing and Publishing

At the end of June 2019, the first footage of the filming in Jamaica was published. A first film poster was presented on October 5, 2019. A first teaser was published on December 1, 2019 and the first trailer three days later. A second trailer followed as part of Super Bowl LIV in early February 2020.

The film's official title, No Time to Die , was announced by the studio on Twitter on August 20, 2019. In the absence of this, the film was usually known in the press under the name Bond 25 . In 1958 a prisoner of war film was released with the same original title, which was released in Germany as No Time to Die . Some later James Bond filmmakers contributed to this film, including Terence Young (director, screenplay), Albert Broccoli (producer) and Richard Maibaum (producer). The German title, No Time to Die , was announced on September 30, 2019.

In July 2017, November 8, 2019 was announced as the US release date for the 25th James Bond film. With the announcement of Fukunaga's commitment, it was also announced that the film would only start worldwide on February 14, 2020. In February 2019, the start date was postponed again, the film should be released on April 8, 2020. In Germany and the United Kingdom, the film should open in cinemas on April 2, 2020. However, in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic , a China premiere planned for April 2020 in Beijing and a subsequent nationwide cinema tour were canceled. On March 4, 2020 it was announced that the global theatrical release will be postponed again and that the film will not open in British and German cinemas until November 12, 2020 in US cinemas. The cost of the laying is put at up to 50 million US dollars.

With the expiry of Sony's distribution rights for Bond after more than a decade, a competition for the future marketing of the franchise has arisen. In addition to the initial interested parties Sony , Warner Bros. , Universal , Fox and Annapurna , Apple and Amazon also joined the company at the beginning of September 2017 . Ultimately, Universal secured the global distribution rights as well as the rights for home cinema, in the USA the film will be brought to the screen by Annapurna and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer .

continuation

According to reports from the Daily Mail , Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been hired as a screenwriter for a future James Bond film.
