Jorge Martín
Jorge Martín Almoguera (born January 29, 1998 in Madrid ) is a Spanish motorcycle racer . In 2015 he made his debut in the Moto3 class of the motorcycle world championship and became world champion there in 2018 . He has been competing in the Moto2 class since 2019 .
Career
Jorge Martín competed in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup from 2012 to 2014 . He finished his first season in twelfth place, in 2013 he finished second in the overall standings behind the Czech Karel Hanika and in 2014 he won the championship confidently ahead of Joan Mir .
Martín made his debut in the Moto3 class of the motorcycle world championship in 2015 with Jorge Martínez's Mapfre Mahindra Aspar team alongside Francesco Bagnaia and Juanfran Guevara on Mahindra . His best result was seventh place at his home Grand Prix in Aragon .
In 2016 Martín remained loyal to his team, which now competed under the name Aspar Mahindra Team Moto3 . His team mate remained Bagnaia, Guevara switched to the RBA BOÉ Racing Team . This season he achieved his first podium in the World Championship with second place behind John McPhee ( Peugeot ) at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno .
For 2017 , Fausto Gresini signed the Madrilenian for his team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 as a replacement for Enea Bastianini , who had switched to Estrella Galicia 0,0 . This season, Martín achieved a number of podiums on Honda . At the last race of the season in Valencia , he won the first Grand Prix of his career ahead of his compatriots Joan Mir (Honda) and Marcos Ramírez ( KTM ).
In 2018 , Jorge Martín stayed on the same team and won the season opener in Qatar ahead of Arón Canet and Lorenzo Dalla Porta . At the end of the season, the Spaniard became world champion in the Moto3 category with a total of seven Grand Prix wins ahead of the Italians Fabio Di Giannantonio (Honda, Martín's team-mate) and Marco Bezzecchi (KTM) .
In 2019 Martín rose to the Moto2 class and competed for the KTM works team Red Bull KTM Ajo alongside Brad Binder . With two podium places, he finished eleventh in the World Championship.
In 2020 , Martín will remain in the team, which will now compete with a Kalex chassis due to KTM's withdrawal from Moto2 . His new teammate is the Japanese Tetsuta Nagashima .
