Keith Connor

Keith Leroy Connor (born September 16, 1957 in Anguilla ) is a former British triple jumper .

Keith Connor won his first international medal at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Milan in 1978 , when he won silver behind Anatoli Piskulin from the Soviet Union with 16.53 m . At the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton , he won 17.21 m in front of the Australian Ian Campbell . A month later at the European Championships in Prague he was sixth with 16.64 m.

At the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 Connor finished fourth with 16.87 m.

In 1981 he won bronze at the Universiade with 16.88 m. After Connor had clearly won the European Championships in Athens in 1982 with 17.29 m, he was also the favorite for the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane . Connor won with 17.81 meters ahead of the Australian Ken Lorraway with 17.54 meters. However, these jumps were not included in the leaderboards because the tailwind was too strong.

The following year Keith Connor did not succeed in the first World Championships in 1983 in Helsinki with 16.18 m to move into the final. His season best in 1984 was Connor at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . 16.87 m was enough for bronze behind the Americans Al Joyner and Mike Conley Sr.

In 1979 he was English champion, in 1978 English indoor champion, in 1978 and 1980 British champion and in 1982 US indoor champion. Starting for Southern Methodist University , he was NCAA champion in 1982 and 1983 and NCAA indoor champion in 1981 and 1982.

Keith Connor is 1.86 m tall and weighed 78 kg at competition times.
