Kia Ray EV

The Kia Ray EV is an electrically powered minivan made by Kia . The Kia Ray was first sold in 2012; a limited edition of 2500 vehicles was produced. Externally, the almost cuboid small car largely corresponds to the Kia Ray with 1000 cc gasoline engine, which came on the market in Korea in November 2011. Both variants are produced on the same assembly line and are only available in Korea for the time being. Global market launch is expected in 2014.

power

The Ray EV reaches a top speed of 130 km / h . The electric car accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 15.9 seconds. The 50 kW (68 PS) electric motor of the Ray EV, which drives the front wheels, is supplied by a lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 16.4 kWh. The battery is designed for a life of ten years and is installed under the rear seats. The electric range is around 140 km , but this value can change depending on the driving situation. According to the manufacturer, the Ray EV's battery can be recharged in six hours at any 230-volt household socket. An unspecified fast charging mode is supposed to enable charging in 25 minutes.

Furnishing

The Kia Ray EV has six airbags as standard , an electronic stability program (comparable to ESP ), a navigation system that also shows the nearest fast charging stations in Korea, and an artificial engine sound.

Like all electric vehicles, the Ray EV makes almost no engine noise and is therefore not easily noticed by pedestrians. That's why Kia has equipped its EV with a system for generating an artificial sound that is active up to a speed of 20 km / h.
