Kim Alexander Frank (born May 24, 1982 in Flensburg ) is a German singer , director and author .

biography

Growing up in simple circumstances in Flensburg- Fruerlund , he founded the band Echt in 1994 with Florian Sump and three other classmates in the Kurt Tucholsky School in Flensburg , which released their first album named after the band in 1998. With the album Freischwimmer and especially the hits You don't have love in you and are you crying? the band achieved their nationwide breakthrough in 1999 and they enjoyed great popularity, especially with younger female fans. The most famous titles of the group did not come from the band itself, but were written by Michel van Dyke ( where are you now? And you have no love in you ).

It was only for the commercially unsuccessful follow-up album Recorder (released in 2001) that the musicians wrote their own songs. Due to internal disputes about the further musical direction, the band broke up in 2002.

After the end of Echt , Frank initially went beyond music: During his career with Echt , Frank was already taking pictures of various artists, among others. a. he shot the band Nord and Bernd Begemann . Frank also gave musical support to Sportfreunde Stiller (A compliment) , Bernd Begemann (Until you meet the right person - take me) and Marlon (Dear God) . Frank not only lent his voice to the music, the singer also played in the radio plays The Three Question Marks (episode 106, Jeffrey) and Step by Step into Paradise (apprentice) by Otmar Hitzelberger .

His debut novel was published by Rowohlt Verlag in May 2011 . Under the title 27 , he deals with a musician's fear of dying at the age of 27 and thus joining Club 27 .

In April 2016, Kim Frank won the Echo for the best national music video for his video for Udo Lindenberg's Durch die Schwier Zeiten . In the same month Die Zeit published a nostalgic and longing-inspiring “love letter” from him to Flensburg, his hometown, which he left at the age of 16 in order to leave for Hamburg.

Kim Frank made his debut film Wach in March 2018 , for which he also wrote the script. In wax is about two friends who want to stay awake without drugs, as long as possible. It ran for the first time on September 17, 2018 on ZDF and was published in parallel on YouTube . Wach was nominated for the Grimme Prize 2019 and the New Faces Award 2019. Jana McKinnon was nominated for the Studio Hamburg Young Talent Award 2019 as the best young actress.

In the 1990s he was in a relationship with the presenter Enie van de Meiklokjes .
