The 32nd European Athletics Indoor Championships were held from March 1st to 3rd, 2013 in the Scandinavium in Gothenburg . This was the fourth time that the event took place on Swedish soil and the third time in Gothenburg.

Applications for the venue

The Scandinavium

Gothenburg originally applied to host the 2011 European Indoor Athletics Championships . However, after this was awarded to Paris , Gothenburg was awarded the contract for 2013 instead.

The Scandinavium has already hosted the European Indoor Athletics Championships in 1974 and 1984 as well as numerous other international championships in other sports such as ice hockey and handball . The city of Gothenburg has also hosted other major athletics events in the past , including the 1995 World Athletics Championships and the 2006 European Athletics Championships .
