Most famous non-three-thousand-meter peaks in the Dolomites: the Three Peaks

The list of three thousand meter peaks in the Dolomites lists all three thousand meter peaks in the Dolomites in Italy . The list is divided into main and secondary peaks, which are spread across the provinces of South Tyrol , Trentino and Belluno . The Brenta is also taken into account , which is not counted as part of the Dolomites by the Alpine Club division of the Eastern Alps , but is included in the Italian-language specialist literature and in some German-language guides.

The sortable table with the main peaks contains, in addition to the location by province and mountain group, the parameters dominance and notch height as well as the date and participants of the first ascent . The secondary peaks are listed separately with details of the respective mountain group.

Explanations

  • In the literature there is disagreement about the exact number of three thousand meter peaks in the Dolomites, which is due on the one hand to varying heights and on the other hand to different definitions for the independence of a summit.
    • Richard Goedeke and Hans Kammerer list 117 three-thousand-meter peaks in their book 3000er der Dolomiten (1993), more precisely 65 main peaks and 52 secondary peaks. The following table is roughly based on this separation.
    • In the Italian work 3000 delle Dolomiti by Alberto Bernardi et al. (2014) named 86 three-thousand-meter peaks, with no distinction being made between main and secondary peaks.
  • Most of the three thousand meter peaks are in the Marmolata region (11 main peaks) and in the Brenta (9).
  • The highest of the world-famous Drei Zinnen falls short of the three-thousand-meter mark by one meter and is therefore not on the list. Other well-known non-three-thousand-meter peaks are the Pala di San Martino ( 2982  m ), Rosengartenspitze ( 2981  m ), Haunold ( 2966  m ), Plattkofel ( 2969  m ), Peitlerkofel ( 2875  m ), Dürrenstein ( 2839  m ), Seekofel ( 2810  m ), Paternkofel ( 2744  m ), Einserkofel ( 2698  m ) or Schlern ( 2564  m ).
  • Mountain groups without three-thousanders form the Bosconero , Cadini group , Latemar , Marmarole , Peitlerkofel group , Puez group , Schiara , Schlern and Vette Feltrine .
  • A summit that is cited by both of these works as a three-thousand-meter peak is the Hohe Schlechtgaisl, the height of which is given as 3015  m slm . According to the official Web GIS of the province of South Tyrol and the Veneto region , however, the altitude is only 2967  m . This summit is therefore not included in the list.
  • The Kleine Furchetta ( 3010  m slm ) is again often mentioned with a height of 2975  m . However, the South Tyrol GIS confirms an altitude of over 3000 meters, as shown by Goedeke & Kammerer as well as Bernardi et al. is specified.

Legend

  • Rank : Rank that the summit occupies among the three-thousanders.
  • Image : Image of the mountain when the summit is not clearly recognizable with annotation .
  • Summit : name of the summit.
  • Height : height of the mountain in metri sul livello del mare ( meters above sea level ).
  • Province : Administrative location of the summit by province .
  • Mountain group : location of the summit by mountain group.
  • Dominance : The dominance describes the radius of the area that the mountain towers over. Specified in kilometers with reference point.
  • Scharte : The Schartenhöhe is the difference in height between the summit height and the highest crest down to which you have to descend at least in order to reach a higher summit. Specified in meters with reference point.
  • First ascent : Names of the first ascent with date, if known.

Minor peaks

The following 50 surveys are classified by Goedeke & Kammerer as secondary peaks due to their low independence ( Schartenhöhe ) . The Cima Paolina ( Civetta ) also mentioned there , according to more recent maps, only reaches a height of 2998  m slm and is therefore not listed.
