Lotzwil ( Bern German Lotzu or Lotzbu ) is a municipality in the Oberaargau the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

Lotzwil is located in the Bernese Oberaargau , embedded in the valley of the Langete river , which rises in the Napf area , 2.5 kilometers south of the Oberaargau metropolis Langenthal (capital of Oberaargau with 15,000 inhabitants) 40 kilometers from Basel , Bern and Lucerne , at 504 meters above sea level.

The community belongs to Oberaargau Ost and spreads over an area of ​​6.22 km². It has a growing population of currently around 2,400.

Neighboring communities are: Langenthal , Busswil , Obersteckholz , Madiswil , Rütschelen and Bleienbach .

Around 66% of the working population (more than on the occasion of the 1980 census) earns their livelihood outside the municipality of residence. Elsbeth Steiner is the mayor (as of January 1, 2020).

The community is located on the railway line (S6 + S7) Langenthal - Huttwil - Wolhusen -Luzern ( S-Bahn Luzern ) not far from the motorway connections Kriegstetten , Kirchberg BE , Wangen an der Aare , Niederbipp and Reiden . Since the timetable change on December 13, 2009, the Langenthal 64 city bus (previously line 14) has also been running to Lotzwil, Unterdorf.

Lotzwil is home to part of the cultural landscapes known as Wässermatten , which are included in the federal inventory of landscapes and natural monuments of national importance (BLN object 1312). They represent a scenic hiking area between Lotzwil and Langenthal.

An eco-path leads from the parish hall via the train station - Rütschelenstrasse - Mattenhof to the inlet structure of the Langete on the Lotzwil / Madiswil municipal border. It is an educational trail that aims to provide information on the conflict between humans and the natural environment and to encourage reflection.

The regional cycle touring network leads over Kreuzfeldstrasse to Lotzwil train station and further on via Mühlesilo - Alleeweg - Badmattstrasse (to the level crossing there) and on over the cycle path to Madiswil.

The Lotzwil greyhound racecourse, known throughout Switzerland, is located on the plain in the direction of Bleienbach .

The playground and meeting place is west of the parish hall on the Langenthal - Madiswil cycle path. There is also the Swiss family barbecue area “Chleiholz” in the forest clearing at the entrance to the greyhound racecourse on the plain between Lotzwil and Bleienbach.

The protected buildings such as the church, rectory, the old school building on Langenthalstrasse, the Ofehüsi and the “Ingoldstöckli” at Huttwilstrasse 3 are worth seeing.
