Luke Gasser (actually "Lukas Gasser", born April 8, 1966 in Lungern ) is a Swiss filmmaker , sculptor , painter , musician , actor and book author.

Life

Gasser was born and raised in Lungern in the canton of Obwalden . His father Hans-Heini Gasser was a member of the Obwalden government from 1973 to 1986 . From 1983 to 1987 Gasser did an apprenticeship as a sculptor with Karl Imfeld in Lungern and attended the school for design in Lucerne . He has been performing as a rock musician since the early 1980s and has been a freelance sculptor, painter and musician since 1991. He has been a filmmaker since 1999, mostly directing, producing and acting as an actor. Gasser lives and works in Kägiswil , Obwalden.

In 2007 Luke Gasser ran surprisingly with the support of a non-partisan committee as a non-party candidate for the Swiss National Council . Shortly before the election, Gasser announced that he wanted to join the CVP parliamentary group after a possible election in Bern . As a result, the votes of the CVP supporters split up, to the detriment of the official CVP candidate Patrick Imfeld, who achieved a better result with 4,462 votes than Luke Gasser with 3,095 votes. As a result, SVP candidate Christoph von Rotz was able to win the election by 61 votes. For the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2019 on October 20, 2019, Luke Gasser ran again as an independent candidate for the National Council, but only achieved the fourth-best result with 1,675 votes. The second-placed Peter Krummenacher (CVP) missed the seat of the National Council with 5325 votes by only 87 votes, which - as in 2007 - went to the SVP.

From 2008 to 2010 Luke Gasser was Managing Director of the Regional Development Association (REV) in Obwalden. In 2009 he was the founding president of the Central Switzerland Film Association , which he chaired until 2015.

Luke Gasser is friends with the writer and university lecturer Elisabeth Zurgilgen .

Luke Gasser's works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout Switzerland. In 2004 Gasser designed the new bells of the St. Mauritius Church in Bonstetten and in 2016 the chancel of the new church.
