Macalaco

Macalaco ( tetum Makalaku ) is an East Timorese place and Suco in the administrative office of Quelicai ( municipality of Baucau ).

The place

The place Macalaco is located in the northwest of the Sucos, at an altitude of 351  m . There is a medical station and the primary school of sucos, the Escola Primaria Macalaco .

Macalaco has 919 inhabitants (2015), of which 442 are men and 477 women. The population density is 33.4 inhabitants / km². There are 237 households in the Suco. Over 95% of the population name Makasae as their mother tongue. Only a few residents speak Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue .

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Macalaco had an area of ​​28.97 km². Now it is 27.52 km². The Suco is located in the northwest of the Quelicai administrative office. To the northeast are the Sucos Guruça and Abafala , to the southeast the Sucos Baguia and Letemumo and south of the Suco Bualale . In the northwest, Macalaco borders the Baucau administrative office with its sucos Uailili , Samalari and Seiçal . The headwaters of the Borauai have their source in the north of Macalaco and in the border area to Guruça . The Salabada flows right through Macalaco, rises here and disappears again. The Acanau rises in the border area to Bualale , which also changes its name to Saluhada on its way along the border . It is a source river of the Seiçal .

The country road that connects Quelicai with the country's northern coastal road runs along the border with Baguia . Across the road from Baguia, the towns of Lacolio and Samadae extend into Macalaco. On the southwest corner of Abafala lies the village of Mumana , which also extends into Macalaco. The settlements that actually belong to Macalaco are located near the banks of the Salabadas. To the north these are Macalaco , Bocilai and Macalira , to the south Larimuta , Defadae ( Deladae ), Luborice , Larubo and Chefamuai .

The three Aldeias Bocilai , Defadae and Macalira are located in the Suco .

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Hermenegildo Martins elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Casimiro Belo . Virgina Freitas Rodrigues , who was elected in the local elections in 2016 , died in 2017.
