(1998)

Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. is a demo by the US metal band Slipknot . It is considered the band's first release.

Emergence

After founding Slipknot in 1995, they teamed up with producer Sean McMahon and recorded the demo within seven months. The album was recorded at SR Audio , a studio in their home, Des Moines, Iowa. Slipknot later recorded their self-titled debut album there. The band had to finance the album itself. Overall, it came at the cost of 40,000 US dollars . When the album was mixed up, founding member Donnie Steele left the band. Reasons were that because of his religion he no longer considered it appropriate to be a member of Slipknot. He was succeeded by Mick Thomson . By releasing Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. Slipknot caught the interest of major record companies. The demo was sold in an edition of 1000 copies and is therefore considered a collector's item.

style

Slipknot experimented more on the demo than they did on their later albums. For example, the song Confessions is based on jazz . The guitars have also been influenced by funk in other songs . Nonetheless, some of the songs show which way the band later took. Examples are Slipknot or Only One .
