Career
Michael Bresagk began his career as an ice hockey player in 1988 in the GDR league with Dynamo Weißwasser . With his team he was East German champion in the 1988/89 and 1989/90 seasons . After the reunification and renaming to PEV Weißwasser, the defender played with the team in the 1st Bundesliga . In the seasons 1990/91 and 1991/92 Bresagk had to go into the play-downs with the club . In 1992, the left-handed player moved to EV Landshut in the ice hockey Bundesliga , for which he was active for five years and with whom he played in the newly founded German ice hockey league from the 1994/95 season . In 1995 the defender reached the play-off final with the EVL , in which he and his team were defeated by the Kölner Haien .
After Bresagk started in the Ligue Magnus , the top French division, for Brest Albatros Hockey in 1996/97 , he returned to the DEL for the 1997/98 season and signed a contract with the Frankfurt Lions . As with Weißwasser and Landshut, he had to go to the play-downs with the Frankfurters in the 2002/03 season , where they were inferior to the Schwenninger Wild Wings in six games . Due to the bankruptcy of the Black Forests, however, the Lions remained in the DEL. The following year, Bresagk celebrated the greatest success of his career with the team when he surprisingly won the final of the play-offs against the Eisbären Berlin and thus the German championship title. From 1997 to 2010 the defender played over 600 DEL games for Hessen, with a total of 780 appearances in the highest German professional league, he is one of the three record players in DEL history behind Mirko Lüdemann and Andreas Renz from the Kölner Haien. He also took part in the DEL All-Star Game in 1998, 2006 and 2007 .
International
For the German national team , Bresagk took part in the 1994 , 1995 and 1998 world championships. In total, he played 73 international matches.
