Monodrama

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Monodrama (from ancient Greek μόνος mónos "alone" and δρᾶμα drama "drama"), also monodrama, solo play or one-person play, is a melodrama in the theater in which only one person appears.

At times, we also understood solo scenes within a comedy as a monodrama. Most of the pieces for pantomimes are also designed as monodramas.

Monodramas were written by Richard von Meerheimb , August Strindberg , Anton Chekhov and Samuel Beckett , among others . An important monodrama in the musical field is the one-act opera Expectation by Arnold Schönberg (composition) and Marie Pappenheim (libretto).

Many well-known dramas have been adapted as monodrama, e.g. B.

In Germany there are regular theater festivals for monodramas, including a. Thespis - International Monodrama Festival in Kiel since 1999 or Monospektakel in Reutlingen since 2011.

In Austria, the Mono Bene Festival has been taking place every two years since 2013 with monodrama productions from Italy, Slovenia, Germany and Austria.

Bipersonal psychodrama is sometimes incorrectly referred to as monodrama.
