Werner Fritsch

Werner Fritsch (born May 4, 1960 in Waldsassen , Upper Palatinate , Bavaria ) is a German writer .

Life

Werner Fritsch grew up on a desert farm (Hendlmühle near Wondreb, Tirschenreuth district) in the north-eastern Upper Palatinate , far from city life, which he later conquered all the more emphatically with his linguistic works of art. At the Kepler Gymnasium in Weiden id Opf. One of his teachers was the writer Franz Joachim Behnisch , who introduced him to Herbert Achternbusch . Influenced by Achternbusch - he gave the 15-year-old the advice: Take a look at your province - Fritsch has consistently maintained a productive proximity to his native Upper Palatinate.

After high school and basic military service, he devoted himself to action theater / performances as an author, director and actor until 1984 . In 1987 his novel Cherubim was published , which received a lot of attention and prizes (including the Robert Walser Prize 1987). Since then, Fritsch has published numerous prose and theater pieces , radio plays and scripts .

In the 1998/99 season he was Bruno Klimek'stheater poet ” at the Mannheim National Theater , where two of his plays - Cherubim (1998) and Steinbruch (2000, invited to the Mülheimer Theatertage ) - were premiered.

In recent years, Werner Fritsch has also devoted himself more to teaching, for example he was visiting professor for drama / new media at the Leipzig Institute of Literature for several semesters . Werner Fritsch lives alternately in the Hendlmühle near Wondreb in the Tirschenreuth district and in Berlin . He is a member of the PEN Center Germany .
