Pavlohrad ( Ukrainian Павлоград ; Russian Павлоград Pavlograd ) is a city in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in central Ukraine . Pavlohrad is the center of the Rajons of the same name and has about 105,000 inhabitants (2019). The city is located between the Samara and Vovcha rivers, 75 km east of the Dnipro Oblast center .
history
In 1779 a small fortress was founded on the site of the present city. The resulting town received city rights as early as 1784. In the 19th century, Pavlohrad was the administrative center of the Ujesd of the same name in the Yekaterinoslav governorate . Since the end of the 19th century, the city was an important center of the grain trade. Pavlohrad was occupied by the Wehrmacht in October 1941 . After an uprising in February 1943, the city was liberated, but retaken after five days and finally liberated on September 18, 1943. During the war the city was 3/4 destroyed. After the rapid reconstruction, Pavlohrad has become an important industrial center (mechanical engineering).
