Terniwka (Ukrainian Тернівка ; Russian Терновка / Ternowka ) is a small town in the Ukrainian Oblast of Dnipropetrovsk with about 29,000 inhabitants (2016).
geography
The city is located in the east of the oblast at the confluence of the Velyka Terniwka with the Samara 20 km east of Pavlohrad . The city district also includes the village of Selena Dolyna (Зелена Долина), which is located northeast of the city. On the opposite bank of the Velyka Terniwka is the village of Bohdaniwka . The distance to the Dnipro Oblast Center is 96 km.
history
The place was founded in 1775 at the behest of the governor of Azov as Sloboda . The place was liberated from the German occupation on September 17, 1943. The development of the town began with the discovery of large coal deposits in the area in 1950. In 1959 the first ton of coal was mined, in 1964 the mining of the Sachidno coal mine began. Donbass started, in the same year the place also became an urban-type settlement. Terniwka has had city status since 1976 and Terniwka has been an independent city since June 9, 1990.
