Per Elofsson (born April 2, 1977 in Umeå ) is a former Swedish cross-country skier .

Career

In the junior division, Elofsson won a complete set of medals at the Junior World Championships in 1996 in Asiago, Italy : In addition to gold over 10 kilometers and silver over 30 kilometers in the individual competitions, he won bronze with the Swedish relay. At the Junior World Championships in 1997 in Canmore , Canada , he was able to win the title over 30 kilometers. He won the cross-country skiing world cup in the 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 seasons , winning a total of eleven world cup races. In 2001 he became world champion over 15 kilometers and in the pursuit race, in 2003 he repeated his victory in the pursuit. At the 2002 Olympic Games he benefited from the subsequent disqualification of the German Johann Mühlegg , who started for Spain, in the pursuit race and won the bronze medal.

In 2001 Elofsson was awarded the Svenska Dagbladet gold medal. In 2005 he retired from top-class sport and in the same year surprised as a heavy metal musician: On the album Grand Illusion by the band Nocturnal Rites , Elofsson played guitar on a song.
