history
The oldest documentary mention of Rüscheid goes back to a document from 1280. It bequeathed the Beguine Jutta von Rusthinscheit the Abbey Rommersdorf their goods in the parish Anhausen. The Rommersdorf Abbey marked their property with boundary stones in which an abbot's staff with an intertwined “A” and “R” for Rommersdorf Abbey was carved. The lower part of the coat of arms refers to the historical relationship between the municipality of Rüscheid and Rommersdorf.
In March 1945, Western Allied troops captured Rüscheid as part of Operation Undertone . Rüscheid became part of the French occupation zone ; the first post-war years were full of privation.

coat of arms
Blazon : “Split over a grafted flat silver tip , inside a red abbot's staff , with two ligated (bound) red capital letters“ A ”on the right and“ R ”on the left, in front four red diagonal bars in gold, topped with a left-facing blue peacock golden feather eyes, behind in green a silver windmill. " | |
Justification of the coat of arms: Peacock and red sloping bars of the Wied coat of arms indicate that Rüscheid once belonged to the lower county of Wied. The windmill refers to the tower windmill of the Rüscheider miller Friedrich Haag, which he had built in 1880-82 at the southern end of the village to use the wind that often blows on the ridge to drive the mill, but with little success because of the unfavorable location. The last remains of the quarry stone mill were removed around 1930. The windmill also symbolizes the cultivation of grain in the wide fields. The abbot's staff and the letters “A” and “R” associated with it (for Rommersdorf Abbey) in the lower coat of arms (top) stand for the former property of the Rommersdorf monastery in the Rüscheider district, which marked their land holdings with this symbol on their boundary stones. |
