The House of Representatives in Belize , Central America , together with the Senate, forms the Belizean National Assembly and can be compared to the House of Commons in Great Britain .

The bicameral system was introduced in Belize in 1981 when the new constitution gained independence from Great Britain. To be able to move into the House of Representatives, a delegate must have a majority of the votes in his constituency . When the constitution was drafted in 1981, there were 18 members of the House of Representatives; in 1984 that number was increased to 28, in 1993 to 29 and in 2005 to 31 members.
