Richard Kevin Sherman (* the thirtieth March 1988 in Compton , California ) is an American American football poker players on the position of the cornerbacks . He plays for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League .
Sherman was selected 154th place by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft . Together with the other defensive backs of the Seahawks, he formed the " Legion of Boom ". Sherman is considered one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.
college
Sherman began his college career at Stanford University in 2006 as a wide receiver and was named an All-American Freshman after the season . After catching 47 passes in the next two years, he suffered a knee injury after the 4th game day in 2008, which ended the season for him. In his senior year he moved to the position of cornerback and by the end of his college career had 112 tackles and six interceptions . He was part of the team that set a school record in 2010 with a score of 12: 1.
Sherman graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies in 2010 but returned to Stanford for his Masters course.
NFL
2011
Sherman was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the 5th round of the 2011 NFL Draft . He said afterwards that he was angry because players he rated worse were drafted before him. Although he only started ten games in his rookie season, his performance exceeded all expectations and he was elected to the PFW All-Rookie Team . With four interceptions, 16 prevented passes and 55 tackles , he was able to show the best values of all rookies.
2012
On the 14th game day he got against the quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals , John Skelton , two interceptions, two tackles, an assist, a won fumble and a touchdown . So he played a major role in the 58-0 victory, which is the highest to-zero victory in the club's history. On matchday 15, Sherman had five tackles and one interception against Colin Kaepernick's San Francisco 49ers . He also carried the ball back over 90 yards for a touchdown after a blocked field goal by the 49ers .
In December 2012, he was able to prevent a threatened four-game suspension for taking performance-enhancing substances by successfully filing an appeal. 2013
Sherman was one of the leading players in the Legion of Boom, the secondary of the Seattle Seahawks, which allowed the fewest yards in passing this year . They thus formed the basis for the success on the way to the first Super Bowl in the history of the Seattle Seahawks. He ended the year with eight interceptions, leading the NFL. Because of these strong performances, he was elected with the most votes for a defense player in the Pro Bowl .
Sherman played a crucial role in the play-offs. With the last play in the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers, the quarterback of the 49ers, Colin Kaepernick, threw the ball towards Michael Crabtree , who was taken by Sherman in the end zone in man marking. As the Seahawks were six points ahead at the time, a successful pass would have likely meant the end of the play-offs. Sherman was able to deflect the ball with his fingertips to his teammate Malcolm Smith , who then managed the decisive interception. 2016
Convincing performances in the 2016 season, including four interceptions and eleven defended passes, led to another Pro Bowl nomination. It was only after the 2016 season that it became known that Sherman, who in turn played all 16 games as the starting cornerback, was severely handicapped in the second half of the year due to an internal ligament injury on his right knee. 2017
