Robert Detweiler

Robert "Bob" Milan Detweiler (born July 20, 1930 in Centralia , Illinois , † December 8, 2003 in Orem , Utah ) was an American rower .

Robert Detweiler was a cadet at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis and a member of the academy's eighth . This eight was nominated for the 1952 Olympic Games . In Helsinki, the US eight reached the final undefeated, where he won with over five seconds ahead of the Soviet and Australian boats. It was the seventh consecutive Olympic victory for the American eighth since 1920.

In 1953, Robert Detweiler graduated from Annapolis and became an officer in the United States Navy . After finishing his army service, he went to Utah as a scientist and teacher. Detweiler, a music lover, was chairman of the Utah County Arts Council , founded the Utah Piano Quartet, and performed with the Salt Lake Opera Company .
