Jim McMillin

James Burge "Jim" McMillin (born March 8, 1914 in Seattle , Washington , † August 22, 2005 in Bremerton , USA ) was Olympic champion in rowing at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. He was team captain of the victorious US eight .

He graduated from Seattle's Queen Anne High School and then went on to study engineering at the University of Washington (UW). McMillin was the tallest man and team captain in the US eight with a height of 2 m, who won the gold medal in the 2000 m race at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. During the race, the team fought their way from last place to place of victory and won by 10 strokes. 70,000 visitors saw the victory ahead of Germany and Italy on the Berlin-Grünau regatta course . The entire team, known as the "huskies", was provided by the University of Washington.

In his rowing career, McMillin won an IRA bronze medal, three IRA gold medals and the Olympic gold medal. McMillin coached the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) rowing team and worked as an engineer at Boeing . He had lived on Bainbridge Island since 1958 .
