The seal of Myanmar was introduced after the 2008 constitutional amendment.

Description of the old seal (1974-2008)

The silver cog in the blue center, which stands for the country's industry, bears the red map of Myanmar. The cog wheel is surrounded by golden ears of grain, which symbolize the country's agriculture.

The fourteen teeth of the gear stand for the seven minority states and the seven provinces. The rice wreath underlines the importance of agriculture for nutrition. A white five-pointed star above the state symbol .

As shield holders, the blue lions symbolize strength and bravery tamed by wisdom.

The red ribbon at the feet of the lions bears the name of the country in Burmese script .
