Simon Wright

Simon Wright (born June 19, 1963 in Alden near Manchester , Great Britain ) is a British musician .

From 1983 to 1990 he was the drummer of the Australian hard rock band AC / DC . He also played in the heavy metal band Dio .

Career

Wright was selected from hundreds of applicants as the new drummer after Phil Rudd left AC / DC after responding to an ad "Drummer wanted" in Melody Maker . He made his tour debut on the Flick-of-the-Switch tour, which ran through the United States from October to December 1983 .

He played with AC / DC Sonor Phonic Plus Drums.

In early 1990, Wright left AC / DC and joined the group Dio . The band was temporarily dissolved shortly afterwards by Ronnie James Dio .

Wright later joined the American band Rhino Bucket , which plays a style comparable to AC / DC.

Then he was hired as a drummer with UFO , played there until 1998. In that year UFO disbanded and Wright came back to Dio, where he stayed until the band split up in 2010.

He is currently touring as the drummer in the solo band of ex Judas Priest and Iced Earth singer Tim Owens . He also played the drum parts for a large number of the songs on Tim "Ripper" Owen's solo album, Play my Game (2009).
