The Sony Ericsson Open 2012 was a tennis tournament that took place from March 21st to April 1st, 2012 in Miami . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2012 and was played on hard court. This season it was the second of nine tournaments in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 category . At the same time, the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 women will take place in Miami .

In the individual, Novak Đoković was able to successfully defend his title by beating Andy Murray in the final . In doubles, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes were the defending champions, but this year they competed with new partners. Paes was able to win the tournament again on the side of Radek Štěpánek .

The former world number five and Australian Open finalist of the year 2007 Fernando González ended his professional career as previously announced after his first round defeat against Nicolas Mahut .

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 96 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 32 pairs. The 32 top seeded players in the singles each received a bye into the second round.

The prize pool was $ 3,973,050 and the total financial commitment was $ 4,828,050.

qualification

The qualification took place from March 19-20, 2012. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
