The northern urban area is one of five urban areas in the city of Plauen in Saxony . It is divided into eleven districts.

The Markuskirche in the Haselbrunn district

The city area is crossed by the White Elster , and there are also well-known structures such as the Obere Bahnhof , the Vogtlandstadion , the VFC Plauen venue , the Markuskirche , the Jößnitz Castle and the Elstertalbrücke , the second-highest brick bridge in the world. Approximately in the middle of the city area is the city forest and the Reißigwald, the largest contiguous forest area in the city.
