Teufenbach (also Teuffenbach) has been a former municipality in the judicial district or district of Murau , in Styria ( Austria ) since the end of 2014 , which together with the former municipality of Frojach-Katsch forms the new merged municipality of Teufenbach-Katsch .
geography
The former municipality is located in the upper Mur Valley at an altitude of 760 m above sea level. A. and borders on Sankt Lorenzen bei Scheifling , Niederwölz , Frojach-Katsch , Mariahof and Sankt Blasen .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 982 as "Tiufinbach". It is named after the deep ( ahd. Tiuf ) cut watercourses. The Lords of Teuffenbach had belonged to the Styrian knighthood since the 13th century. The branch of the family that remained in Teufenbach died out in the male line in the 17th century. Their Teuffenbach castle was bought by Prince Schwarzenberg in 1689 . The Neu-Teuffenbach Castle, built by Balthasar von Teuffenbach from 1549, which was divorced from the Alt-Teuffenbach complex by the heirs after the jointly managed Teuffenbach family property was divided.
Neu-Teuffenbach Castle is now used as a senior citizens' home. The political community Teufenbach was established in 1849/50. As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria , it has been merged with the municipality of Frojach-Katsch since 2015 , the new municipality is called Teufenbach-Katsch . The basis for this is the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG. A challenge to the merger, which the municipality of Teufenbach had brought before the Constitutional Court , was unsuccessful.

The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from May 1, 1985. It is part of the municipal coat of arms of Teufenbach-Katsch .

- The tennis section, headed by Markus Kaplans, has 80 members and is one of the most active tennis clubs in the Murau district. Youth leader Mag. Stefan Zechner is currently training with more than 40 children and young people. The last big success of the Teufenbach tennis club was the promotion to the 1st group of the Murtalliga in summer 2006, as well as the win in the winter indoor cup 2006/07.
