The Naked Brothers Band

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Naked Brothers Band is an American mockumentary about a children's rock band . Nat and Alex Wolff laid the foundation for this . The "Naked Brothers Band" is also a real band . In addition to the films and the TV series, the video games for "The Naked Brothers Band" came out in 2008 .

Naked Brothers Band (The Band)

history

One day when Nat and Alex Wolff were very young they got out of the bathtub and announced, "We are the Naked Brothers Band!" As they danced around the apartment . A band was born. In preschool age Nat Wolff founded the "Silver Boulders" together with friends , Alex Wolff started as a drummer . The band included his best friends David Levi and Thomas Batuello , Joshua Kaye , Ann Curry's son Walker and Julianne Moore's son Caleb Freundlich. Nat Wolff first drew attention to himself with the "Silver Boulders" when he celebrated his birthday in a fire station in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks and recited a song he had written "Firefighters" . In this formation, the friends performed at weddings and other celebrations. As they got older, they changed the name back to "The Naked Brothers Band" .

today

The Wolff brothers appear on tour or with a different line-up as the "Naked Brothers Band" . These include the professional musicians Jacob Hertzog (guitar), Misty Boyce (keyboard), Chris Muir (bass), and Boris Pelekh (guitar, percussion). With "Nat and Alex Wolff: Fully Dressed and on Tour" they started their tour debut in autumn 2008. The band still exists, with the six actors from the series. All of them have mastered their instruments in normal life.

The Naked Brothers Band - Young Rock Stars Private (TV Series)

The series is a so-called mockumentary . It started on February 3, 2007 in the USA on the children's channel " Nickelodeon ". In Germany, the series on Nick was first broadcast on October 20, 2007. So far, only the first season ran in Germany .

The series is one of the most successful children's programs for six to 14 year olds in the USA. The premiere saw 3.8 million viewers. Nickelodeon thus achieved its highest ratings in seven years. Season 3 is currently running in the USA. This includes more 60-minute specials than TV films than before. A simple sequence takes about 30 minutes. At the moment it is not clear whether there will be a fourth season of the Naked Brothers Band.

Story and idea

In the summer of 2004, Polly Draper made " The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie " . Draper, the mother of Nat and Alex Wolff , wrote the script , directed and worked as a producer . In 2005 the independent production ran as a contribution to the Hamptons International Film Festival , where it won the audience award for the best family film contribution. Albie Hecht, board member at Nickelodeon Networks and producer of the series, was among the audience and saw the potential of this idea. Nickelodeon adopted the concept with minor changes.

At the start of 2007, the series developers were accused of copying the successful Disney production Hannah Montana with Miley Cyrus . Draper could dismiss that far, as the film was screened at the Hamptons International Film Festival in 2005 , long before Hannah Montana had its television premiere. "The Naked Brothers Band" (original title USA) quickly developed into a ratings hit. To promote the start of the series, NBB music videos were offered on the Internet. The videos were viewed eleven million times and the Wolff brothers were known before the start of the series. Draper said in a newspaper interview:

“They were so excited. The show hasn't even aired yet and now walking down the streets kids are calling out their names. They can't believe it. " Translation: " They were so excited. The show hasn't even aired yet, [but] when they walk in the street, children shout their names. You can't believe it. "

music

The essential and special thing about NBB is the music. Texts and melodies of the NBB songs come exclusively from Nat Wolff , some were written by his brother Alex . It is music by children for children. There were unconfirmed rumors that their father, jazz pianist and band leader Michael Wolff , was involved as a ghostwriter for NBB catchy tunes such as “I Don't Want To Go To School” , “Eventually” or “Blueberry Cotton” . Nat Wolff, who mostly composes his songs on the piano at home , has clear rules, including ensuring that his parents do not cut his lyrics. Michael Wolff said in a newspaper interview that Nat has a mind of his own when it comes to music. "It's art, we don't interfere." Translation: "It's art, we don't interfere ."

The first songs, such as “Crazy Car” , are part of the so-called bubblegumpop . This genre no longer applies to many new releases such as the album "I Don't Want To Go To School" . The music got rockier , and the lyrics (such as "Face In The Hall" ) deal seriously with adolescent problems.

action

The NBB - Junge Rockstars privat (German title) documents the life of a world-famous, six-piece children's rock band . The camera accompanies them on the red carpet, to concerts and witnesses how the young rock stars are chased by fans . At the same time it shows the normal life between school, first love and other "normal" problems that arise and have to be solved in the course of growing up. The love story about Nat, who has a crush on bassist Rosalina, is taken up again and again in the first two seasons. The dialogues are characterized by puns and ironic swipes , which are often lost in the German dubbed version. Some situations are deliberately exaggerated. Adults like father Sonny, played by Michael Wolff , often make fools of themselves on the show . The young viewers like that.

Although the series is based on the real life of the two Wolff brothers and their friends, the stories are only fictional. The actors play the rock stars, but they're not in real life. NBB's huge success means that fiction meets reality.
