Ty Detmer Hubert (*  the thirtieth October 1967 in San Marcos , Texas ) is a former American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He played college football for Brigham Young University and won the 1990 Heisman Trophy . From 1992 to 2005 he played for various teams in the National Football League (NFL).

Life

Detmer played from 1987 to 1991, from 1989 on the grid, college football for the Cougars of Brigham Young University under head coach LaVell Edwards , and during this time won three championships with the team at the Western Athletic Conference . He was also awarded the Heisman Trophy , the Maxwell Award and the Davey O'Brien Award in 1990. A year later he took third place in the Heisman vote. He also received the Davey O'Brien Award for the second time in 1991 and the Sammy Baugh Trophy for best passport thrower . In addition, he was voted All-American by various sports newsrooms in both 1990 and 1991 . During his undergraduate studies, which he graduated with a degree in Leisure Management, he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints , sponsored by Brigham Young University.

In the NFL Draft in 1992 he was selected by the Green Bay Packers , for whom he played from 1992 to 1995 as the second quarterback after Brett Favre , but was rarely used. In 1996 and 1997 he played for the Philadelphia Eagles , where he got into the starting lineup after an injury to Rodney Peete . After playing for the San Francisco 49ers in 1998 and serving there as second quarterback after Steve Young , he moved to the Cleveland Browns a year later , where he was active in 1999 and 2000. He then spent three seasons with the Detroit Lions from 2001 to 2003 . His last stop in the NFL was in 2004 and 2005 with the Atlanta Falcons , where he was not used as the third quarterback after Michael Vick and Matt Schaub . In 14 seasons in the NFL, he played a total of 54 games, 25 of which were on the grid.

After finishing his professional career, he worked for Triton Financial Corporation until 2009 . From 2009 to 2015, he served as the football coach for a high school team in Austin . He then worked for two seasons from December 2015 to November 2017 as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at his alma mater.

Ty Detmer is married and has four daughters. His brother Koy Detmer played as quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes of the University of Colorado at Boulder and in the NFL from 1997 to 2006 for the Philadelphia Eagles and 2007 for the Minnesota Vikings .

In 2012, Ty Detmer was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame .
