Ust-Labinsk ( Russian Усть-Лабинск ) is a city with 43,270 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the Krasnodar region in southern Russia . Until the city charter was granted in 1958, the place was called Ust-Labinskaya (Усть-Лабинская).
location
Ust-Labinsk is located about 60 km from Krasnodar , the capital of the Krasnodar Territory, at the confluence of the Laba River into the Kuban . The closest city is Korenovsk , about 50 km from Ust-Labinsk.
Should not be confused with the UST-LABINSK lying also in the region Krasnodar Labinsk . Both cities owe their name to the Laba river, where Ust-Labinsk means something like "place at the mouth of the Laba".
history
The place was founded in 1778 as one of the Russian fortresses north of the Caucasus on the Kuban. In 1794 the fortress received the status of a Cossack Stanitsa and the name Ust-Labinskaya. In peacetime, its inhabitants mainly operated agriculture, which did not change significantly until the 20th century. In 1924 Ust-Labinsk became the center of the raion of the same name ; it has had city rights since 1958.

Economy and Transport
The industrial operations in Ust-Labinsk include several food factories and two brickworks, but in general the city and the Rajon have - especially since the collapse of the Soviet Union - little industry and are therefore considered poor. In September 2007 it was announced that a new building materials factory of the construction company Glawstroi , which belongs to billionaire Oleg Deripaska , is to be built in Ust-Labinsk .
Several country roads and a railway line run through Ust-Labinsk. As a result, the city has direct connections to Krasnodar, but also to the Black Sea port in Novorossiysk .
