history

Weitendorf

was first mentioned in a document in 1286 as Weytendorp . It was founded at a ford through the Warnow.

Beautiful location

Merten Tzychuse, knape, wonaftech in Pouerstorpe was mentioned for the first time in 1380 . In 1389 Hermannus de tzamid was named in Pouerstorpe ecclsiarum parochialium rectoribus and in 1399 Groten Pouerstorp .

Until 1810, Schönlage was still called Gross Poverstorf . The estate at Schönlager See owned u. a. the families Graf von Schack (18th century), von Hopfgarten and von Arnswald (1822–1945). The core of the unrenovated manor house probably dates from the 18th century, the extensions from the 19th century.

Official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE WEITENDORF".
