Disambiguation link notification for January 6
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of England Test wicket-keepers, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bruce French<!-- (check to confirm&nbsp;|&nbsp;fix with Dab solver)-->. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. <small>(Read the FAQ Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)</small>

It does look suspiciously like and advert. WP:AFD would be the way to go, as a PROD is going to be contested by the author and speedy doesn't apply. You want me to do the listing or will you? Petros471 16:09, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Dweller. I see that you are very much interested in castles. I have come across a couple of articles on castle & fortification terms which are translated literally from German. I am not an English native speaker, but have spent a lot of time reading and researching on the topic, both in English and German. What is very clear to me is that English castellology and German Burgenkunde have developed separately, and one positively cannot translate ad litteram terms from one language into the other. When this procedure is used to create enWiki articles, the result is not just funny or slightly off, but totally misleading, as the terms are either non-existent and non-native speakers are misled into learning and using them, or they do exist, but with a different meaning, and that is a deadly sin in an encyclopedia. The words might well be sometimes used together in a text, but without constituting an established term, and presenting them as such is a serious mistake. Can you please
: Thanks for the advice / support. I'll do it. Let me know if I get it wrong. --Dweller 16:12, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
*a) take a look,
*b) invite other editors from this field you might know, so that the decision is taken by a number of well-informed people; I am adding now Srnec and Dave souza already, and
*c) if need be, delete the misleading articles? One can try and place the useful material into existing or new articles, I don't want people's work to be wasted, but neither are we allowed to mislead the users.

Here are the two examples, and I have a hunch that there are more, by the same very productive colleague: bridge castle and fortified gateway in the meaning of "Torburg" (I have modified the latter one the best I could). Please check also the two talk-pages, and my message to our hard-working friend. :Hi. I love castles, but haven't really devoted much time to them here - and don't have much time here for anything these days. While I readily understand the concepts and think they would be useful terms to have, I must say I've not come across either of these terms before, but that's not necessarily a problem. It's WP:RS that counts. If there's no notable term in English, we should probably host the articles at the German language names, and include a translation of the names. Does that help? --Dweller (talk) <small>Become old fashioned!</small> 20:50, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

::Thanks, that's what I thought as well. Since it's not my main area here, I was hoping to pass the ball to "the usual suspects", but they're hard to make out. The German articles already exist, that's where our friend took everything from, so that's not the issue. Thank you and enjoy the spring! :::Impressive work, the examples you've linked seem to be on the right track. The German analysis seems to define types which may have no English language equivalent, so what's been done looks useful as explaining something which occurs more in Continental Europe than in the UK and Ireland. Regrettably, it's outside my expertise, and I'm struggling to catch up with other projects at the moment. Hope these articles act as a starter, bringing in editors with the time and knowledge to develop coverage. . . Oh, it's definitely flattery. --Dweller 08:55, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

...for how you handled the BN discussion. I'm sure it makes me a fragile person, and opens me up to mocking comments from people who dislike me, but if I had been in Jake's shoes, I'm pretty sure I'd have said to myself: "yes, the community has changed since I was an admin; more than 50% of them have turned smug and casually cruel. I think I'll go volunteer my time somewhere else." (This, of course, would have been taken as proof I never really intended to re-engage.)
NCFC
Good work on the NCFC player of the year page!

My concern is not that admins should be able to cling to an unused bit for a long time. I agree current requirements are inadequate, but they are the current requirements. My concern is someone has come along and volunteered to help out again, had a quite reasonable expectation (based on what he was told at the time he resigned and on the wording of current policy) that this was a routine request, and was basically shit on by many people for being a hat collector or arrogant or something. That is not how you re-engage returning volunteers. So I appreciate how you handled it professionally and politely. An unfortunate side-effect of JW's agreement is that the smug and casually cruel will consider this some kind of vindication. Feels like an icky place to be right now. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:14, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

More seriously, I really do care about the values I talk about in the link in my sig. We're not kind enough to one another. And, shockingly for a Crat, I feel that's more important than interpreting policy. Even better if I can find a way to make them not clash, which is what happened at BN today. That Jake agreed to my proposal is a credit to him - he didn't need to - and is I'm sure linked to the kind of person who is likely to have passed RfA in the first place, and we should be all too happy to welcome back into the fold of active users. But in any case, being polite and welcoming to all, admins, experienced non-admins and newbies alike, has always been my policy. --Dweller (talk) <small>Old fashioned is the new thing!</small> 22:25, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
You are right, it does seem a bit extreme to have lists of players by year for every Australian Football League club. You can put them up for AfD, or have me do it if you wish. It's going to be a big nomination. :) --Kimchi.sg 12:13, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello.
#Please do not revert my good-faith productive changes without any discussion or explanation.
#What I did was correct: there's no need to disambiguate between the Dayan the judge and Moshe Dayan - because Moshe Dayan is not ambiguous to Dayan, and a "Dayan redirects here" notice at the top of Beth din is plenty sufficient.
I think this is a non-issue, but if you wish to follow with this further, please discuss first, and we can enlist a third opinion if we cannot come to an understanding. == Redirects ==
Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
The reason for keeping miscapped redirects is that, if I were to be typing in the address bar, and mistakenly type "Gledhill" as "gledhill"...

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
see? DS 17:19, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
:That's an argument for creating redirects for every single article that has more than one word in its name. --Dweller 17:22, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
::Given that it already existed, and was already a redirect, there was no reason to delete it. DS 00:26, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

open the edit option of the same page in two different windows. now do edits in one of them and save it. close the window. now do some edits in another window (they must be different from the first). now save the second window. then open the original page. u'll see that ur first edits would have been reverted and only ur second edits will be shown on the page. this was what happened at the time when u saved ur edits before me, but we were actually editing the same page. since i saved my page later, ur edits got reverted. i m sorry for ur inconveniences but it wasnt my fault either.

Hey, let's fill this white space ;) I like my talk today (actually mostly from 29 May - I took the title pic), enjoy the music, two related videos worth watching! - Old FAs - mixed thoughts. Bencherlite hasn't edited in years, and Dank has mostly retired from FA business. People scheduling are Jimfbleak (next, July), Gog the Mild (on vacation, for August) and Wehwalt (for September). I nominated some old ones for TFA, - one was postponed (twice), one not yet taken, but some appeared, including Messiah (my first where two great masters included me for having taken things out, - one of them died, the other is cross with me, see Cosima Wagner which I want to nominate for her birthday in December). Another one is on TFAR but with OR questions, - could you help there, perhaps? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:25, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
:::Yes, I could see what you were doing (and I was in the middle of writing you an explanation). The rule is never to use subst: on stub templates. Doing so completely ruins the work done by WP:WSS since it makes resorting articles close to impossible. It also means that a template and its corresponding category can easily be separated which is even worse. I think I have fixed all the affected articles now. WP:WSS will probably have to write this rule somewhere easy to see. Happy editing. Valentinian (talk) 12:16, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

:I believe the db-advert tag was created by an ambitious user but not debated and accepted into the WP:CSD criteria, so while it was undoubtedly a bold move it was sidestepping procedure somewhat, so got the active portion of it disabled (i.e. adding it doesn't automatically list the article in the speedy deletion category). At the time I added the db-empty tag the article was only one sentence saying it was a forum that gave out passwords for adult sites, so I figured it probably classed as speedy (on reflection, db-group might have fitted better as it didn't "assert the notability"). Frankly I still can't see much hope for the article - it fails WP:WEB pretty hard, having been in existence only for a few months and having no Alexa rank. ~Matticus&nbsp;TC 11:04, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

The first paragraph of Grace after meals is traditionally ascribed by Jews to the authorship of Moses. Subsequent paragraphs are also attributed to various prophets who predate Christianity by some millenia. On a more factual, "citational" basis, by the time of the discussions recorded in the Mishna, with which the life of Jesus is roughly contemporaneous, Grace after meals (and indeed, the blessings before meals) is a well-established fact of Jewish life with some antiquity behind it. --Dweller 15:09, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

The warning to DemonicAnglian was a complete and total error that arose because of a hardware problem here, I had no intention of issuing any warning to him. If I had, I agree a t4 would be innapropriate. I think I can point to two mistakes with VP, and one complete mystery (The Truth about the Iditarod). If I'm making other mistakes, either in degree of warning or where no vandalism has taken place, then please tell me where they are and I will work out how they arose and how to avoid them in the future. FYI on this diff on Stockton Rush 1161537116 you mentioned that a paragraph had been . I wanted to clarify in case you have any questions why things were changed; I think multiple edits might have been conflated here. I removed the block quote in 1161479789, and indeed that is the only change in that diff besides replacing "he" with "Rush" in the first instance where he's mentioned in the section. The remainder of the career section was rewritten over the course of several edits by several editors; my contribution there came in 1161482357 where my edit summary clearly states the intent as cleaning up some of the promotional language from the Smithsonian piece. I suspect between that and other edits it wound up looking like the paragraph had been deleted entirely. Happy to further clarify if there's any confusion! === July thanks ===
:Hi, thanks, I couldn´t understand what is a speedy tag or a worked-on article. The article is notable because it is about the most important project to preserve the Transmontan bagpipe in Portugal - which had been almost vanished -, supported by many institutions like the Ministry of Culture. They do make a great effort with many projects, like classes and workshops. They have made valuable researches with old bagpipers which are dying, making these their last register. They promoted the most important bagpipe meeting in Portugal: the National Encounter of Bagpipers (Encontro Nacional de Gaiteiros), gathering even bagpipers from Scotland, Spain and France. It is really not just a self-promotional text, since it is a non-profitable organization; the intention is to show how important is to preserve the Transmontan bagpipe, and which efforts are being made. However, all of it is said on the article; how do you think I could make it better? Thanks. Tonyjeff 16:31, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

I´m sure enough that the Bagpipe Association of Portugal is much more notable than The Hairy Hands Club, but I´m going to retrieve some informations, like quantity of members (not 1,000,000 I guess, but a relevant quantity) and midia coverage. As I have said, is the most important organization to the preservation of the Transmontan bagpipe, for the extense of its courses, workshops, researches and events promoted. Their most important event, the Nation Encounter of Bagpipers, has gathered more than 8,000 people along its four years of existence, and has been covered by important media, like the newspapers already cited and TV channels like RTP and SIC. They are indeed the biggest movement to the preservation of the Transmontan bagpipe in Portugal, although they work toghether with other minor organizations. I sincerly think its notable enough to be in Wikipedia, since they have just seven years of existence and still growing. Tonyjeff 20:32, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

The fact that the word criticism is in the headline makes the theory that it's completely POV the whole point to begin with. And what kind of argument that Major League Baseball is abrivated in the article should in itself warrant deletion!? I'm sure that there are people who don't know what the NFL, NBA, or NHL stand for, so what point are you making. I'm an American yet, I don't completely understand what something like FIFA (the international soccer organization) stands for off the top of my head. for example If you don't know what the letters stand for, then isn't that one of the reasons for Wikipedia to exist!? TMC1982 20 October 2006 (UTC)
:As far as POV goes, I think you'll find I'm not the only editor with that opinion. With regard to MLB, you must have missed the word "almost". Besides, I reckon you'll struggle to find an article about FIFA that doesn't explain that it's talking about football, which was the (minor) point I was making. --Dweller 20:45, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I
Hermit House
I don't think it's a speedy anymore. Either a prod or AfD. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 13:25, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
:Yup, agreed. --Dweller 13:29, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/99.94
* Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
Eh... I'd rather see it through to the finish, becuase there are a few keep votes, and (more importantly to me) several people who want it merged. It might be useful somewhere, even if you don't see its usefulness right now. Besides which, I'm in no position to comment on the article's usefulness, as a cricket-ignorant American Imperialist. ;-) <font color="orange">Grand</font><font color="black">master</font><font color="orange">ka</font> 08:46, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
* Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
:OK, fair enough. Thanks for the reply. I'm planning on merging it "by hand", as I have no desire to muck up the Bradman article. You Americans have a lot to learn about Imperialism, that we Brits can teach you. I'll be impressed when the Iraqi baseball team beats the American one, like India, Pakistan, West Indies, South Africa and especially Australia routinely do to England's cricket team! --Dweller 08:51, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
* Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
* Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
* Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
* Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
* Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
* Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
* Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
* Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
* Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
* Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
* Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
* Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
* Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
* Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
* Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! Hello. As nominator of the deletion, I thought I'd drop by in hope that there are no hard feelings? I read through the discussion after some time away from it, and was surprised that I had stirred up such a debate! I still feel deletion (if it happens) is the correct option, but I don't think the consensus is as clear-cut as you make out. I do share everyone's awe and wonder at Bradman's achievements. My father, who saw him bat at Hastings in 1948, said he attacked every ball. Anyway, keep up your tireless, excellent work improving Wikipedia. --RobertG &#9836; talk 14:12, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

The guidelines at WP:AIV say, in part, not to list someone for blocking if "The vandal has not received the full range of test warnings recently (i.e., within the previous week)." This IP's last test4 was on Oct. 12. Because different people may use the same IP account, the policy is generally not to block unless there is a recent (i.e., same day) test3, 4, or testb. Disambiguation link notification for January 6[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of England Test wicket-keepers, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bruce French. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:07, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Castellology[edit]

 • a) take a look,
 • b) invite other editors from this field you might know, so that the decision is taken by a number of well-informed people; I am adding now Srnec and Dave souza already, and
 • c) if need be, delete the misleading articles? One can try and place the useful material into existing or new articles, I don't want people's work to be wasted, but neither are we allowed to mislead the users.

Here are the two examples, and I have a hunch that there are more, by the same very productive colleague: bridge castle and fortified gateway in the meaning of "Torburg" (I have modified the latter one the best I could). Please check also the two talk-pages, and my message to our hard-working friend. Thank you, Arminden (talk) 20:08, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 20:50, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that's what I thought as well. Since it's not my main area here, I was hoping to pass the ball to "the usual suspects", but they're hard to make out. The German articles already exist, that's where our friend took everything from, so that's not the issue. Thank you and enjoy the spring! Arminden (talk) 00:28, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Impressive work, the examples you've linked seem to be on the right track. The German analysis seems to define types which may have no English language equivalent, so what's been done looks useful as explaining something which occurs more in Continental Europe than in the UK and Ireland. Regrettably, it's outside my expertise, and I'm struggling to catch up with other projects at the moment. Hope these articles act as a starter, bringing in editors with the time and knowledge to develop coverage. . . dave souza, talk 11:40, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. --Dweller (talk) Old fashioned is the new thing! 13:49, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks...[edit]

...for how you handled the BN discussion.

--Floquenbeam (talk) 17:14, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 • Hmm. This is pretty sad. JW has a really cool name. If we're collecting hats, I want the Arhg Kbiroaqrat hat--or maybe this one. Drmies (talk) 17:19, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for kind words.

I am uncommonly proud of being an Arhg Kbiroaqrat. Although part of me wishes I was cool enough to be an aardvark.

--Dweller (talk) Old fashioned is the new thing! 22:25, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mike Grose requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. October songs

Thank you for improving articles in October! - Today: see yourself, read about a hymn praying to not be on earth in vain, about a comics artist whose characters have character (another collaboration of the "perennial gang", broken by one of us banned), and in memory of the last prima donna assoluta, Edita Gruberová. I had to go to two grave sites last week, one who died now, one who died 10 years ago, so standing upright and in black seems appropriate. More colours - but subdued - can be had on hikes, - click on songs. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:31, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:03, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled[edit]

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:05, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Bathrooms.com Article[edit]

Hey, you created the Bathrooms.com article in 2015 and nothing has been done with it. I've seen other articles get removed for far less, so I'm wondering if it's worth keeping or removing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rowan-MMB (talkcontribs) 21:50, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

 1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
 2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:25, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Synod of Oxford[edit]

On 22 May 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Synod of Oxford, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Archbishop Justin Welby said that the 800th anniversary of the anti-Jewish laws of the Synod of Oxford provided a time to "remember, repent and rebuild"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Synod of Oxford. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Synod of Oxford), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Notice

The article Covenant of the pieces has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Content duplicates the section Abrahamic covenant at Covenant (biblical). Both versions are poorly sourced (other than via primary religious literature), and as such, there is little call for an independent article on the topic.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Iskandar323 (talk) 10:58, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've addressed this by reverting back to an old diff. It's not in great shape, but it is at least specifically on-topic, rather than generic, which is what the article had become. Stockton Rush Career Section[edit]

FYI on this diff on Stockton Rush [1] you mentioned that a paragraph had been mysteriously removed with edit summary that referred only to the block quote. I wanted to clarify in case you have any questions why things were changed; I think multiple edits might have been conflated here. I removed the block quote in [2], and indeed that is the only change in that diff besides replacing "he" with "Rush" in the first instance where he's mentioned in the section. The remainder of the career section was rewritten over the course of several edits by several editors; my contribution there came in [3] where my edit summary clearly states the intent as cleaning up some of the promotional language from the Smithsonian piece. I suspect between that and other edits it wound up looking like the paragraph had been deleted entirely. Happy to further clarify if there's any confusion! Today, I have a special story to tell, of the works of a musician born 300 years ago. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:54, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I uploaded more pics, with Christmas trees and related artworks, and I have two women on the Main page (for a sad reason). Our Christmas singing (of my user's infobox music "singen, singen") was pictured. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:15, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

a lovely old thread[edit]

While wallowing in some nostalgia from the much earlier days of the Reference Desks, I came across the — sorry to qualify it thus — long-forgotten Ref Desk thread of the week award, and was particularly delighted at the second recipient, since my own attempt at arranging 7 points nicely on a sphere is a problem I was just looking at again yesterday. Cheers! —scs (talk) 14:55, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, scs, how nice to return from a trip and see this lovely message. I did enjoy doing those awards - I've always taken pleasure from quirky things. Hope you're well. --Dweller (talk) Old fashioned is the new thing! 08:38, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I[edit]

 • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
 • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
 • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
 • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
 • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
 • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
 • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
 • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
 • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
 • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
 • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
 • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
 • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
 • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
 • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
 • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
 • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

1979 World Snooker Championship[edit]

This ref you added here was never defined, it needs a full cite. Thanks. Isaidnoway (talk) 13:11, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, that was a bad mistake, thanks. It was supposed to go in the 1978 tournament lead, not 79! Fixed, thanks. --Dweller (talk) Old fashioned is the new thing! 06:34, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RFA2024 update: phase I concluded, phase II begins[edit]

Hi there! Phase I of the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review has concluded, with several impactful changes gaining community consensus and proceeding to various stages of implementation. Some proposals will be implemented in full outright; others will be discussed at phase II before being implemented; and still others will proceed on a trial basis before being brought to phase II. The following proposals have gained consensus:

See the project page for a full list of proposals and their outcomes. A huge thank-you to everyone who has participated so far :) looking forward to seeing lots of hard work become a reality in phase II. theleekycauldron (talk), via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:08, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
