Monifah Carter is an American female R&B/Soul, sometimes Dance-pop singer best known for her hits "I Miss You" (1996), "You" (1997) and "Touch It" in 1998. The song "Touch It" (with samples of Laid Back's "White Horse")

Monifah was raised in Spanish Harlem in Manhattan. She was signed to MCA Records and released her debut album, Moods...Moments, in 1996. The album featured the hit "I Miss You (Come Back Home)" and the moderate hit "You". The music videos for both songs becam very popular on Urban music video shows.

Monifah's sophomore album was the mild to moderately sexually explicit, Mo'Hogany, was released in 1998 and featured the highly successful track, "Touch It". The song became a dancefloor staple and her largest pop single which peaked at #9 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It also crossover to the Dance chart.

Her third album, Home, executive produced by Teddy Riley, contained the moderate hit "I Can Tell" which tells the story of a woman who can tell her man is attractive to other men. She confronts him about it but decides to keep him because she understood why he kept it secret and he is a good man to her nonetheless. The other singles include the moderate hit, "Brown Eyes" and the minor hit, "Fairytales."
