Laid Back are a Danish pop duo . It was founded in 1979 by keyboardist Tim Stahl and guitarist John Guldberg. Laid Back had their greatest successes in the 1980s and early 1990s with a catchy mix of synth-pop , funk and reggae elements .

Career

Maybe I'm Crazy was the first hit in their home country Denmark. Laid Back made their breakthrough in Europe and South America in the summer of 1983 with the single Sunshine Reggae . In Germany alone, the song stayed at the top of the charts for six weeks in September and October . While the single flopped in the US ( Mungo Jerry released the song in the UK - the sound of which it is very much based on), the B-side White Horse , an anti-drug song with a catchy bass line, developed in the clubs there a hit. With the help of Prince , who agreed to jointly release the track on a maxi single along with his song When Doves Cry , Laid Back managed to strengthen its international profile. Later (1998) the American singer Monifah made it to number 9 on the US Billboard charts with a sample of the single White Horse in her hit Touch It .

The follow-up single High Society Girl , which was in the German top ten for three weeks, was also successful . After that, the duo became quieter for a few years. It wasn't until November 1989 that the two reappeared in the hit lists with the single Bakerman . In Austria the single reached number 1 in the charts in February 1990 and the top 10 in Germany and Switzerland. In May 1990 the duo made it into the British single charts for the first time. In addition to the catchy melody, the single also benefited from the accompanying music video , which showed the two playing their instruments during a parachute jump. The director of the video was Lars von Trier .

Some compilations of their greatest hits followed in 1995 ( Laidest Greatest ) and 1999 ( Sunshine Reggae ). In 2000, the duo re-recorded their first hit.

In 2001 Stahl and Guldberg worked on the soundtrack of the movie Flyvende Farmor by directors Steen Rasmussen and Michael Wikke. For this work they were awarded the Robert , Denmark's most prestigious film prize.

In 2006 the English DJ Shaun Baker recorded the title Bakerman again with Laid Back.
