Massie Block is a fictional character in The Clique Series. Massie is the head of the A-list group at her school, Octavian Country Day School (OCD), known as the Pretty Committee. The group includes the Spanish beauty and second in command, Alicia Rivera, the red-head with a celebrity mom, Dylan Marvil, and the on-scholarship athlete, Kristen Gregory. In Revenge of the Wannabes, Claire Lyons finally joins in.

Personality and Family

Massie Block is very rich and glamorous. She lives in a mansion complete with a swimming pool, cabanas, a spa, and tennis courts. She resides in Westchester, New York and has a black pug named Bean. Massie is the only child in her family. Massie's best friends include Alicia Rivera, Dylan Marvil, Kristen Gregory, and Claire Lyons. In The Clique, Claire Lyons and her family move to Massie's guest house so her dad can work for Massie's dad. In Massie's eyes Claire is a LBR (Loser Beyond Repair). Soon enough, Claire steps up to the plate and befriends Massie. Massie is snappy and sometimes rude, but at times she can be heartfelt and funny. Claire, who lives in Massie's guest house, is the only person Massie lets see her insecure side.

Her parents are William and Kendra Block. Her father is a very successful and wealthy businessman. She is "Daddy's little girl." Her parents are very lenient and rarely ever punish Massie. Massie basically gets whatever she wants, whenever she wants.

Appearance

Massie Block is considered a very beautiful girl. But she often worries about her appearance, even though she never shows her insecurities. She is very skinny as she rarely eats sugar or fat. She has shoulder-length, shiny chestnut hair, which changes from time to time. In Best Friends for Never, she gets caramel colored highlights; in Dial L for Loser, she gets extensions; in It's Not Easy Being Mean, she gets a side fringe. She also has 'flickering' amber eyes, a ski-slope, perfect nose and a laser-whitened smile.

Massie can be described as a fashionista, as she is always making trends. She is a subscriber to Elle Girl, Teen Vogue, Seventeen, CosmoGirl, and Lucky. her personal style is very trendy/chic and she is always either up to date with the current trends or she's making up her own.

Reputation and Social Life

Massie's entertainment can range from making fun of LBRs to pouring soup on someone's head (preferably Claire Lyons) but deep down she has insecurities and feelings just like any other person. We mainly see her insecurities in The Pretty Committee Strikes Back when it is mentioned she is nervous about dating Derrick Harrington (who she secretly calls Derrington), the goalie for the boy's soccer team who is not only cute but also very popular. And her feelings are shown occasionally, but one heartfelt moment to remember is in It's Not Easy Being Mean, when Massie says that she'll miss Claire if she leaves Westchester. A negative side of Massie, which is never recognized by anyone but Claire, is that she is so materialistic. Everything she wears, just like her friends, must be designer and expensive. And she never fails to make sure everyone knows that she's wearing a Prada messenger bag, or Gucci sunglasses, or Marc Jacobs. But Massie always simply recieves praise for her showy, "glamorous" clothing. A few times in the series, Massie fears of losing her power and status as "alpha", like in Revenge of the Wannabes when Alicia trys to start her own clique and even convinces Massie's closest friends, Dylan, Kristen, and Claire, to join too. But whatever situation Massie is in, she usually gets her way and what she wants Massie always has the best comebacks, she is clever and witty. It helps keep her on top, because Massie is scared of losing her power and control over everyone. It is her greatest fear. She yearns to be loved by everyone and she loves power and control.

Love Life

In the first book she has a crush on Layne Abeley's older brother, Chris Abeley. They meet at Galwaugh Farms while horseback riding. He is 15, and a freshman at Briarwood Academy. When she finds out Chris was dating a beautiful girl, Fawn, she forgets about ever liking him. She decides not to act on a crush until she knows the guy likes her back for sure.

In Best Friends for Never, she has a crush on Cam Fisher, an A-list Briarwood soccer player, but eventually decides to let Claire have him because they both like each other.

In Revenge of the Wannabes, Massie develops a crush on Derrick Harrington (or Derrington, a nickname she made for him) and he likes her too. But in Invasion of the Boy Snatchers, Alicia's cousin Nina Callas puts a "Spanish soccer spell" on Derrington, making him stay away from Massie so they can win a big soccer game. But in the end, Derrington comes back to Massie. In The Pretty Committee Strikes Back, Massie lies about her love life to the MUCK (Massie's Underground Clinic for Kissing) girls, trying to prove that she has more experience in relationships and kissing than Nina Callas. But when Derrington finds out that she has all this experience, thinking she cheated on him with another guy because Massie and Derrington never kissed, he throws "M" pin Massie gave him down in the dirt and rubs it in the mud. To get her boyfriend back and to prove to the MUCK girls she really had experience, Massie plans to kiss Derrington in front of the MUCK girls with Claire's help. The plan works perfectly and Massie and Derrington make up and have their first kiss. In It's Not Easy Being Mean, Massie is desperately looking for the key to regain her popularity and looks in Derrington's room since he has kissed Skye. But when she looks in his room she discovers that Derrington is a total "pig" and she wants nothing to do with him. Later in the book, Derrington is trying to show Massie pictures of something but Massie keeps rejecting him. Eventually, when she looks at the pictures, Massie discovers that Derrington cleaned his room for her and they are back together again. In the newest Clique novel, Sealed With a Diss, Derrington sees Massie at a party of Skye's with Chris Abeley, when she was actually trying to set Chris up with Skye in a deal. Derrington breaks up with Massie and the Pretty Committee decides to take a "boy fast" and not to date anyone for a while. Little do the know how hard that will be because the Briarwood Academy boys will spend their next year at OCD after a tragic water main burst that ruined the school.
