Rowlesburg is a town in Preston County, West Virginia, along the Cheat River. The population was 613 at the 2000 census.
Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.0 km² (1.1 mi²). 2.7 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (7.02%) is water.
Flood of 1985

The Flood of 1985 was horrible when it washed through the town of Rowlesburg. When traveling the main road in town and turning left theres a building there where they had the line where the flood was in '85. my 3rd. cousin's house's basement was completely flooded out and their living room has a step down and it was filled to the step. At the High School in Rowlesburg, the water was pretty much about half way up surrounded the building and there was mud all inside the classrooms and in the gym. All the electrical and carpet in the school and my 3rd. cousins house had to be replaced after the flood went through. I hope nothing like that ever happens again.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 613 people, 260 households, and 164 families residing in the town. The population density was 225.4/km² (582.0/mi²). There were 304 housing units at an average density of 111.8/km² (288.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.53% White, 0.16% African American, 0.33% Asian, and 0.98% from two or more races.
There were 260 households out of which 24.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.3% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% were non-families. 33.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the town the population was spread out with 21.4% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 88.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.6 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $28,125, and the median income for a family was $32,813. Males had a median income of $25,962 versus $12,750 for females. The per capita income for the town was $14,663. About 7.6% of families and 12.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.0% of those under age 18 and 10.5% of those age 65 or over.
