This article describes the main Characters of Trinity Blood. Trinity Blood is a series of Japanese novels written by Yoshida Sunao, originally published in The Sneaker, a periodical that features Japanese fiction.

The Vatican

File:TrinityBlood Rome.jpg
Rome, home of the Vatican

The Vatican stands in Rome as the center of human existence after the Armageddon. In light of the devastation, people sought refuge and protection from the Church, giving the Vatican responsibility and leadership over the humans. Despite its once supreme authority, humans have begun to put their faith in local leaders and nobles, taking authority from the Vatican. Despite its weakening hold over the nations, the Vatican still stands as the greatest form of human leadership, after the Armageddon.

Leaders

The Cardinals and the Pope who act as the political leaders.

Alessandro XVIII

Voiced by: Yoshinori Fujita (Japanese); Greg Ayres (English) His Holiness, Alessandro XVIII, is the 399th Pope of the Catholic Church, and the son of the former pope, Gregorio XXX, and a son of a distinguished Roman family. After the death of his father, Alessandro was given the title of Pope over his uncle, Archbishop Alfonso d'Este. Alessandro did not choose the position himself, and can be described as a nervous and easily frightened teenager who lacks conviction and confidence in himself. He is highly anthropophobic, and cannot handle shouting, especially when it is directed towards him. Although he has the highest position in the Vatican, Alessandro constantly looks to his elder siblings, Francesco and Caterina, for advice. Despite being the Pope, he is unable to make decisions on his own, thus he is essentially a puppet ruler. He usually consults his siblings in important matters, and is scared of his brother, often causing him to succumb to Francesco's will. Towards the end of the series his eyes are opened a bit, and he gains confidence in himself. He then pledges his efforts towards a new world of peaceful coexistence. In the novels, Alessandro is sometimes referred to as "Alec" by his sister Caterina.

AKA: Holiness
Other Name: Alec
Quote: "Everybody looks down on me... says I'm worthless."
Born:
Ranking: Pope, Leader of the Vatican
Background: Alessandro is the legitimate heir to his father who was the previous Pope. Through his siblings' political strategy, he was chosen over his uncle as the Pope.

Alfonso d'Este

File:TrinityBlood AlfonsoD'Este.jpg
Alfonso d'Este

(based on Alphonso d'Este) Voiced by: John Swasey

Archbishop of Cologne, he is uncle to Alessandro XVIII, Francesco and Caterina. Having lost the papal elections to his nephew five years past, he has harbored a grudge and cooperated with the Rosenkreuz Orden. Thirsting for revenge, he employed the services of the Order to create the ultimate weapon with which to destroy Rome. After a single test of the Silent Noise machine, he was supposedly unsatisfied. As a result, Isaak Fernand von Kampfer tested its power on the entire city of Barcelona, thereby leveling the city to the ground. Alfonso d'Este later used the Silent Noise machine to decimate Rome. He is shown having the power to summon a large octopus-like monster with many tentacles to battle for him. After his plan failed, he was arrested by Father Havel and the AX.

Cardinal Francesco di Medici

(based on Francesco I de' Medici) Voiced by: Juurouta Kosugi (Japanese); John Gremillion (English) The Duke of Florence, Francesco is a tall and intimidating man. The Department of Inquisition is under his command. He cannot be Pope since he is a bastard (illegitimate) son, and probably remains bitter for that reason. He persists in his attempts to bend the Pope to support his way of thinking. He often does this by pressuring his younger brother through intimidation and loud vocal displays. Harboring a strong hatred for vampires, he frequently clashes with his younger sister, Cardinal Caterina, in her pursuits for negotiation and diplomacy. He does not compromise, and persists in responding with violence, often making decisions that will cost innocent lives "in the name of God." He is also known as the Duke of Tuscany.

Cardinal Caterina Sforza

(based on Caterina Sforza) Voiced by: Takako Honda (Japanese); Lydia Mackay (English) Known as the Duchess of Milan. A woman of strong will and determination, Caterina Sforza shows no fear and has a strong resolve in anything she believes in. She leads the special operations group, AX, a sub-section of the Department of Foreign Affairs. Her subordinates frequently solve cases that involve subduing or eradicating rogue vampires. She strongly advocates making peace with the Empire and the concept of vampires and humans co-existing together. It is this that fuels her arguments with her half brother, Francesco, who disagrees with the idea of peaceful co-existence. It appears that she has known Abel for quite some time, seeing how he had saved her from vampires when she was a child. (She joined the Orden after AX was dissolved by Francesco di Medici. This part of the story is not in the anime.)

AKA: Her Eminence, Duchess of Milan

Ranking: Cardinal, Duchess of Milan
Background: As a child, Caterina was attacked by a group of vampires, under the service of the Contra Mundi. After being saved by Abel, he said that he would protect her.

AX Agents

The AX serves as the special division of the Ministry of Holy Affairs. The agents are all elite priests and nuns, trained in different arts of combat. They are called into action when the problems facing the Vatican cannot be solved through negotiation.

Abel Nightroad

Voiced by: Hiroki Touchi (Japanese); Troy Baker (English)

File:TrinAbel.jpg
Abel Nightroad

A Catholic priest who seems to be nothing more than a clumsy, absent-minded fool on the surface. Also known for his poor luck in wealth. In truth, he is a Crusnik, a vampire of extraordinary power, and is an ancient being, hundreds of years old. He is a vampire that feeds on the blood of vampires. But despite his strength, he adheres to a principle of pacifism and often refuses to kill his opponents outright. Abel is shown in flashbacks to have a hatred for humanity, but at some point that changes into his current pacifistic and peaceful outlook on life. He acknowledges having greatly sinned at some point in his life, though it is unclear as to what sin he committed, and much of his current personality is based on retribution for his sins. Abel has at one point referred to his Crusnik form as "a mark of his sins", though it is unknown what he meant by that. His reluctance to show his Crusnik to Esther, and his reactions when she does witness them, could be interpreted as a deep sense of fatherly affection and friendship, as most of the time he appears oblivious that Esther does in fact feel romantic sentiment towards him(as pointed out by Astharoshe Asran). In his human form he fights with a gun that shoots silver bullets. As a Crusnik, is able to transform into various forms based on the amount of nanomachines in his body that he activates (Usually 20%, 40% or 80 %), a which point he wields a massive scythe materialized from his own blood and manifests wings which he can apparently dismiss at his will. In The Star Of Sorrow II, it is revealed that pre-Armageddon, Nightroad was Commander in the UN Air and Space Force involved in the "Mars Colonization" project.

AKA: Crusnik 02
Codename: Crusnik
Other name: - Father Nightroad
Quote: "You have to ask...? Really...? Well, It's...It's because I am your friend..."
Born: Created 2088 A.D. in London, United Kingdom
Ranking: Vatican Priest and AX agent; Commander, Alliance Aerospace Navy
Power: Nanomachine - Crusnik 02
Background: Abel was created in 2088 A.D. in London as one of the so-called "Test Tube Babies." The four artificial humans (Lilith Sahl, Cain Nightroad, Abel Nightroad, Seth Nightroad) were created to be in charge of the colonization of Mars after the Earth's population drastically increased. On Mars, the colonists discovered two alien technologies (the Bacillus and the Crusnik nanomachines), which they installed in their bodies: the colonists, the Bacillus; the Test Tube Babies, the Crusnik, since only their enhanced bodies were able to survive this combination. As the colonists returned to Earth, a war broke out between them and the humans who remained. Abel (hating the world for creating him and his beloved "siblings" as toys back then), Cain, and Seth took the Methuselah's side — while Lilith supported the humans' side. This was referred to as a "gift from an angel" in Vatican records. After she was killed by Cain (now insane after he had fused with the Crusnik nanomachines at 100% after being killed in an accident on mars), Abel retrieved her body, and, in grief, brought it to the Vatican, where she was buried. For 900 years, Abel stayed by her side and wept, until young Caterina Sforza fled to the crypt as she was chased by Methuselah assassins. Abel, realizing that it was his task to continue Lilith's work and defend the humans, saved the young Caterina and chose to live on. He joined the AX at its foundation in May, 3055 A.D. Also, in "The Night Lords V.", Abel finds out that Cain is still alive. Near the end of the series, Abel is apparently killed by Cain. Father Tres later gives him Lilith's nanomachines, reviving him in 100% Crusnik form. Cain and Abel fight, but neither of them is victorious. During the ending credits, it is shown that Abel is indeed alive and is joined by Ion in his quest to kill Cain.

Esther Blanchett (Queen of Albion)

Voiced by: Mamiko Noto (Japanese); Colleen Clinkenbeard (English) Hailing from the city of Istavan (the series' name for Budapest), Sister Esther was raised by Bishop Laura Vitez, who treated her like a daughter. When Abel first met her, she was the leader of a band of rebels called the Partisans who worked to oust Count Gyula's tyranny over Istavan. After her murder of Colonel Lattikar to avenge Bishop Laura, Esther was captured by Gyula's soldiers. After an interesting turn of events, Esther and Abel stop Gyula's plans to destroy the Vatican. Wanting to help change the world, Esther journeyed to Rome with Abel and was accepted into the Ministry of Holy Affairs. A vivid, star-shaped birthmark adorns her side, marking her as Albion's "star of hope" (Note: the name "Esther" is derived from the Persian word for star).[1] This mark later proves her to be part of the royal family of Albion. She is shown to have growing romantic feelings towards Abel Nightroad, though he seems a bit oblivious to this (as Astharoshe Asran points out). She has also shown a strong degree of altruism (sacrificial at times) with Ion. In the anime, she blames herself for Abel's apparent death and stays by his casket for several days, not once leaving his side until Virgil Walsh comes to bring her to Albion. She is also a witness to Abel's revival by Tres, which gives some final resolution to their relationship and allows her to move on. In the end she was crowned queen of Albion, and realized that she could make a difference in the world.

AKA: -
Codename: -
Other name: "The Star of Hope" (as she is called by Virgil Walsh and Dietrich von Lohengrin), "The Lady-Saint of Istavan"
Quote: "I will work to build a world... one where humans and vampires can live together in peace."
Born: 3045 AD in Londinium, Albion (modern United Kingdom)
Ranking: Nun, and Queen of Albion
Power: None (though rather proficient with a shotgun)
Background: Born as the legitimate granddaughter of the Albion queen, she was brought to Istvan shortly after her birth in order to save her from assassins. There, she grew up as an orphaned nun. Led the rebel troops against Gyula Kadar before his death, then joined the Vatican forces. Usually partnered with Abel Nightroad.

She is the daughter of the late Prince Gilbert that was assassinated just after she was born. At the time of the Star of Sorrow incident, she is 17 years old.

Noélle Bor (Mistress)

Voiced by: Sayaka Ohara (Japanese); Christine Auten (English)

File:NoelleBor.png
Noelle Bor

Part of the AX personnel, her power is visual empathy, an ability that allows her through sight to discern the emotions of others and to clairvoyantly track where people have gone by their empathic residue (as shown through her eyes glowing and being able to see illuminated foot prints in a room). She has expressed romantic feelings toward Abel, and although he receives her confession gracefully, he gently lets her down by telling her he is truly blessed to have such a "special friend". She is killed in Barcelona, in the destruction wreaked by the Silent Noise machine. After her death Abel is devastated and feels guilty about not being able to save her, as he feels he broke his promise to Lilith to protect all humans. According to the official Trinity Blood character description of Noélle,

Noélle Bor, one of AX's deputy enforcers. Her codename is "Mistress." She's a 'witch' who possesses the power of empathy, the power to see how other people feel. By opening the 'third eye' of her mind and looking through it, she can see how a living being is feeling, or the remnants thereof. The red of anger, the orange of desire, the white of reminiscence, the black of despair, and others; using these colors Noélle can 'see' people's emotions.

AKA: -
Codename: Mistress
Other name: -
Quote: "I sense hope in the blue that surrounds you."
Born:
Ranking:
Power: Visualized psychometry
Background: She is a retired agent and currently not listed as AX member. The reason for her departure is her unresolved feelings toward Abel. She died in May, 3060 A.D. during the Barcelona Incident.

Hugue de Watteau (Sword Dancer)

Voiced by: Shinya Kitade (Japanese); John Burgmeier (English) Wielding a blade-staff as his weapon, Hugue can easily match an average vampire in a fight. He has artificial limbs that enhance his speed and strength. Hugue was a son of a noble family before he joined the AX. His entire family was mysteriously murdered and he has been trying to track down the culprit to seek vengeance. He has a sister who escaped the slaughter but she is currently missing, presumably taken away by the murderer. The weapon he uses could be considered a Shikomizue. He is shown to be a very independent person, and often leaves AX on a whim in order to track down vampires. On one of his earlier missions in the series, he was sent to investigate the murders of clergy members. After a brief conflict where he killed a vampire, he was found by the servants of the area's leading vampire, Count Karel. He was forced to fight a Werewolf, but was rescued by a nun named Sister Agnes who retrieved his weapon and returned it to him. For her actions she was stabbed by Count Karel and badly wounded. After defeating his opponent, Hugue went on to slaughter Karel and the rest of the area's vampires, and saved the life of the nun. Father Hugue later appears to deliver the Rosen Kreuz Orden's plans to destroy Rome and aided in the battle against Archbishop Alfonso d'Este. He also turned up in Albion later on, to help the Vatican's forces in destroying Isaac's ship.

AKA: -
Codename: Sword Dancer
Other name: -
Quote: "I'm a traveling priest."
Born: 3032 AD in Antwerp, Four City State Alliance (modern Belgium)
Ranking: Former priest
Power: Sword art
Background: Sole survivor of Watteau family, the paramilitary clan which served the Dutch country for generations and which was slain in Bruges. A man with incredibly bad luck. His two arms are artificial limbs. He is currently searching for his little sister Anais (or Ana), who has been lost since the attack on the family, and hunting down his family's murderers against his orders, and thus sought by AX.

Kate Scott (Iron Maiden)

Voiced by: Hitomi Nabatame (Japanese); Gwendolyn Lau (English) Sister Kate manifests as a hologram. She appears able to project herself nearly anywhere in the world despite the lack of a readily visible projector (i.e. when she is seen hiding with Cardinal Caterina in a closet). Her duties include relaying messages, gathering information, and most importantly, captaining the battleship Iron Maiden. She was originally from Albion (the series' name for Britain). Sister Kate is also known to be an old friend of Lady Caterina and Father Wordsworth. Despite her friendship with the professor, she has little tolerance for his errors, and has outwardly expressed her outrage towards his foolish mistakes and failed inventions. Sister Kate is also famous for her herbal tea.

AKA: -
Codename: Iron Maiden
Other name: -
Quote: "Don't test me professor, I mean it."
Born: 3031 AD in Albion (modern United Kingdom)
Ranking: Captain
Power: AX battle airship - 'Iron Maiden II'
Background: Sister Kate is an actual living person. She is currently lying in a coma, but can physically move as the Battle Airship Iron Maiden II (after the destruction of the Iron Maiden I in a war against the RCO in Vienna). Thanks to the Professor, she can project image as a hologram. It has also been hinted in the series that Susanne von Skorzeny (a member of the Rosenkreutz Order) is responsible for putting Kate in a coma.

Tres Iqus (HC-IIIX, Gunslinger)

Voiced by: Kazuya Nakai (Japanese); Christopher Sabat (English)

File:TresIqus.JPG
Tres Iqus

Father Tres is a battle android who wields two guns and works with unemotional, relentless efficiency. His functions are rather limited to combat situations. His vocabulary is devoid of emotion and genuine caring, much like a computer or A.I., expressing statements such as, "Status report" in lieu of "Are you all right?" and "negative/positive" instead of "no/yes". Despite the hollow outward exterior, there have been instances where he displays emotions. He is very loyal to Caterina Sforza. He is the third model of the ten 'Killing Doll' series androids ever produced. His gun fighting style is reminiscent of the Gun Kata used in the movie Equilibrium. He joined the order along with Caterina Sforza after AX was dissolved. (See story note above) Also, because of his monotonous personality, he is seen as a cold person to many. Father Tres briefly battles Cain in episode 24, although Tres's guns seem to have no effect on Cain's force field. He is then subsequently thrown into a wall. He is known to have survived, as he was shown in the ending of the series where Sister Esther was crowned queen of Albion

AKA: HC-IIIX
Codename: Gunslinger
Other name: Hercules Tres Inqus
Quote: "Rewrite Tactical Resident program from Search Mode to Genocide Mode. Commence Combat Operation."
Born: Created 3036 AD
Ranking: Priest
Power: Gun assault, tactical simulation
Background: Only known operational 'Killing Dolls' type mechanical soldier. Only ten were ever made. Created by the Vatican scientist Professor Gepetto Garibaldi and used in his attempted rebellion as weapons. Saved from destruction and recruited for AX by Caterina.

Vaclav Havel (Know Faith)

Voiced by: Fumihiko Tachiki (Japanese); Chuck Huber (English)

File:VaclavHavel.JPG
Vaclav Havel

His special ability is to optically camouflage himself, as well as seemingly take flight. He is one of Cardinal Sforza's most trusted friends, and apparently has been by her side for at least 10 years prior to the story line. He usually spends his time by Lady Caterina's side, but occasionally goes on missions like the other members of the AX. He participated in the arrest of Archbishop Alfonso d'Este. (Note: Václav Havel was the first president of the Czech Republic, as well as a writer and dramatist.)

AKA: -
Codename: Know Faith (or No Face)
Other name: Judas Priest (the name of a chapter dealing with his betrayal)
Born: 3021 AD in Bohemia (modern Czech Republic and Slovakia)
Ranking: Priest
Power: Invisibility
Background: Havel used to be in the Inquisition Bureau. He later joined AX. In the Bohemia War, he kidnapped the Pope and was killed by the Inquisition forces. He called himself an "Unbeliever" and is supposed to have seen something that made him lose his faith in God.

Note: His codename, "Know Faith", could also be considered a play on words, being read as "No Faith", which supports the "Judas Priest" episode.

William Walter Wordsworth (Professor)

Voiced by: Toru Ohkawa (Japanese); Jason Douglas (English) A professor at the University of Rome, Father Wordsworth often comes up with bizarre inventions - some of which work, others ending up as spectacular failures, tending to blow up. Among his inventions are a flying car equipped with missiles and rocket boosters. The shape makes it difficult to fly, and Father Leon was less than enthusiastic about flying in it. Father Wordsworth was originally from Albion and used to be Isaak Fernando von Kämpfer's classmate in the Londinium University. They were both expelled after working on a questionable experiment. He is often shown smoking a pipe.

AKA: -
Codename: Professor
Other name: -
Quote: "The last time I tested this machine it worked splendidly."
Born: 3023 AD in Albion (modern United Kingdom)
Ranking:
Power: Variety of inventions, sword art
Background: A gentleman from Albion. His intellect is second to none. He used to study at London University and was one of the four prodigies of the university, along with Gepetto Garibaldi, Catherina Lange, and Isaac Butler. Framed by Isaac Butler, he was charged for a terrible incident that also killed his fiancée, and expelled from the university. He later joined AX and supported Caterina.

Leon Garcia de Asturias (Dandelion)

Voiced by: Tsuyoshi Koyama (Japanese); Phil Parsons (English) A show-off who was imprisoned for killing his wife and thirty clergymen. He assisted the AX with a case (in episode 7, Never Land) and has had his penalty reduced by twenty years. He carries a pendant with a picture of his daughter around his neck at all times, although her current status is unknown. His location, however, is in the Vatican's orphanage. He tends to fight with sharp throwing disks and a bazooka, and takes great offense at being called an old man. Despite his gruff exterior, Father Leon still shows signs of caring for others. He even seemed to take a liking to a young boy named Peter, whom he met on Neverland Island. Leon even expressed pity towards the children who were transformed into vampires, and supported the idea of sending them to Albion.

AKA: -
Codename: Dandelion
Other name: -
Quote: "Why am I the bad guy? I was just doing my job."
Born: 3031 AD in Hispania (modern Spain)
Ranking:
Power: Combat tactics, demolition specialist
Background: He used to be a decorated professional soldier from Hispania, but due to unfortunate circumstances he is now a criminal with a 1,000-year-long sentence. His sentence decreases with each mission he takes. He loves his only daughter more than anything in the world.

The Department of Inquisition

The Inquisitorial Department is composed of a group of elite fighters who see themselves as soldiers of God. They carry out the Vatican's will under the orders of Cardinal Francesco. Their first mandate is the elimination of all vampires.

Brother Petro (Knight of Destruction)

File:TrinityBlood Petros.jpg
Brother Petro during the Ibelis arc

Voiced by: Tetsu Inada (Japanese); Paul Slavens (English)

The head of the Department of Inquisition. His weapon is a giant mechanical lance called "The Screamer", and he wears extensive, heavy armour which has a built-in jetpack. He is shown to be rather thick headed and violent, with an intense hatred for vampires, although he is not beyond showing reason or compassion, even for the occasional vampire. In the anime, he has fought against Father Nightroad before and won because Abel accidentally slipped and fell off a cliff. Later, he witnessed Abel's Crusnik form during the battle against Radu, but has remained strangely silent about it. In the manga instead of a jet pack he injects himself with an experimental drug which gives him methuselah-like agility.

AKA: Knight of Destruction (Annihilation), 'Il Luminante'
Codename: -
Other name: Pietro Orsini
Quote: "In God's name!"
Born: 3034 AD
Ranking: Director of Inquisition Bureau, No.1
Power: Enhanced strength and speed.
Background: Current head of the Department of Inquisition.

Sister Paula (Lady of Death)

File:TrinityBlood Paula.jpg
Sister Paula in a battle with Dietrich's foot soldiers

Voiced by: Yuko Kaida (Japanese); Wendy Powell (English)

Petros' second-in-command. A deadly woman wielding twin blades. She is an extremely skilled mercenary who is known for taking many lives in her line of work. Her killing tactics were so effective that even Radu Barvon could not detect her presence until she was ready to attack. Despite his resistance, she easily outmaneuvered him and supposedly killed him, but he still lives. Paula has an unwavering loyalty to the Church, and believes that people are either with it or against it. In her illustration, it was accompanied with the words "Kill all heretics, regardless they be man, woman or child."Despite her ruthless and serious nature, she seems to have a strong loyalty to her superiors, including Brother Petro.

AKA: Lady of Death
Codename: -
Other name: Paula Sokowsky
Quote: "A statement like that could get you investigated for heresy."
Born: 3036 AD at Krakow
Ranking: second-in-command, No.13
Power: Statistics sufficient to be an even match to most Methuselah.
Background:

The New Human Empire

File:TrinityBlood NewHumanEmpire.jpg
The Imperial Palace, seat of power for The New Human Empire

The New Human Empire, also known either as the Methuselah Empire or the Empire of the True Race, is a vast land surrounded by airborne particles that filter out the ultraviolet radiation so that the Methuselah may move about by day. It is because of this that the Empire appears to be bathed in the evening dusk, even during the day. The capital city of the Empire is Byzantium, which is the home to both the Empress and a large number of Methuselah Aristocracy who serve in the Empress' court.

The Empire is home to both humans and vampires who live in peace together. Before the Empress, both races are equal, and it is said that she alone may keep the peace. The Empire is the most technologically advanced nation on earth, with weapons and machines that surpass both the Vatican arsenal and Albion, a nation which manufactures the hardware necessary for the production of technological advanced machines. In part because of this the Vatican attempts to remain on good terms with the Empire, which eventually lead to peace talks between the two nations. Because of the current world situation the end of the Empress' reign would result in chaos which could potentially lead to war with the outside world if not quickly contained.

Empress Augusta Vradica (Seth Nightroad)

File:Sethknight.jpg
Seth as a tea seller

Voiced by: Matsuoka Yuki (Japanese); Hilary Haag (English)

The Empress of the Methuselah empire and is also Abel and Cain's sister. She sometimes disguises herself as a tea-seller and medical student in the human district of the capital city, Byzantium. She likes to introduce herself as "Seth, a simple, pretty little girl". Most of her courtiers and servants have never seen her before in all the centuries that they have served her, mainly due to the heavy veils she wears to cover her appearance as well as the use of a voice modifier. Though she does age, she still appears as a little girl at over nine hundred years old (compare with the Childlike Empress of Fantastica). She is in fact Crusnik 03 and is a capable fighter, if needed. In her Crusnik form she has the power to emit highly focused ultrasonic energy, strong enough to disintegrate her target.

AKA: Crusnik 03
Title: Empress
Other name: Seth Nightroad; Her Imperial Majesty, Augusta Vradica, The First and Only; Eternal Mother of the Methuselah
Quote: "Who me? I'm just a simple, pretty girl."
Born: Created 2098 AD in Quebec, Canada
Power: Nanomachine - Crusnik 03
Background: Seth was the youngest of the Nightroad siblings, and the third Crusnik. She was a member of the Alliance Aerospace Navy, and often viewed Lilith as a mother figure when she was younger. After the fall of her brother Cain, she injected him with 100% Crusnik, restoring his life, but changing him for the worse. After he killed Lilith, Seth and Abel confronted him and succeeded in launching him out of an airlock. At one point, Seth became the Empress of the Methuselah Empire (True Human Empire). Seth assumed the disguise of a Tea Seller during the plot to overthrow her, and encountered the Earl of Memphis, and Sister Esther Blanchett without them realising who she was. She helped Ion and Esther once when they were in danger and henceforth became a friend of theirs.

MirkaFortuna

Mirka Fortuna (Duchess of Moldova)

Voiced by: Yuri Amano (Japanese); Jennifer Seman (English)

Grandmother of Ion Fortuna and a faithful servant of the empress. She serves as Seth's decoy during an assassination plot, and holds the rank of Head of the Imperial Secret Council. In the series, she is probably best known for devising the plot to draw out the extremists in the Empire and expose them. Although she is kind, Mirka Fortuna was willing to use her own grandson Ion, as the bait.

Ion Fortuna (Earl of Memphis)

Voiced by: Minagawa Junko (Japanese); Aaron Dismuke (English)

File:TrinityBloodIonFortuna.jpg
Ion Fortuna

Ion is very young by Methuselah standards, and is the grandson of Mirka Fortuna. He is ordered by the Empress to act as an Imperial messenger and envoy to negotiate with the Vatican. Upon his arrival at the Vaticanese embassy of Carthage where Caterina was staying, the building caught fire, causing the Vatican's agents to believe that he was involved. He fled from Father Tres' gunfire, but was injured by a silver bullet. Abel and Esther established contact with Ion and Radu, and aided their escape through the underground passages beneath the city. After learning of Radu's loyalty to the Rosen Kreuz Orden, he is terribly saddened, but finds comfort in Esther. Initially, Ion holds strong prejudices against Terrans, but after his acquaintance and growing familiarity with Esther, his attitude changes considerably. He harbors growing romantic feelings towards her, though these seem to be slightly one-sided. Also, through his experiences with the treachery of the Order he has a growing desire for vengeance, and eventually joins Abel in his quest to destroy them.

Title: Earl of Memphis, House of Moldova
Born: 3045 AD
Power:
Background: A powerful Methuselah looking like a 13-year old boy (in reality, he is Radu's age), and so beautiful that he is often confused with a girl. He is Mirka Fortuna's grandson and thus of a high, noble family. Full of pride for his Empire and his race, he is supposed to take his grandmother's place one day.

Astharoshe Asran a.k.a Asta (Viscountess of Odessa & Duchess of Kiev)

Voiced by: Neya Michiko (Japanese); Carrie Savage (English)

First sent to investigate an incident suspected to be connected to a vampire mass murderer and reluctantly partnered with Abel, Astharoshe is a direct, no-nonsense individual who harbors a low opinion of humans. After working with Abel, she changes her views and becomes his ally (It should be noted, however, that Astharoshe never sees Abel in his Crusnik Form, and doesn't know that he is one). Despite the fact that she can be harsh, Astharoshe has also been shown to be very caring and understanding on some occasions. Later on, she is assigned by the Empress to shelter the Vatican diplomats and the Earl of Memphis. Through this turn of events, Astharoshe becomes involved in helping them stop the Rosen Kreuz Orden's plot. She has proved to be a skilled fighter and wields a large spear, that can extend on her command and fires massive blasts of energy from its tip.

He controls the ring of Solomon, which is capable of firing deadly blasts of energy. He is much older than he appears, as he has long considered himself to be Astharoshe's uncle, and has served the Empire for hundreds of years. After his exile from the empire, he associated himself with the Order of Rosen Kreuz and continued his crimes in Venice. He was found by Astharoshe Asran and Abel Nightroad, who had orders from their respective superiors to arrest or eliminate him. Avoiding his pursuers, Enderle plotted to assassinate Pope Alessandro. His plans ended in failure when he was shot with a silver bullet by Abel Nightroad. During his transportation back to the Empire to await judgement, he was killed by Isaak Fernando Von Kampher. (Note: His connection to the Rosen Kreuz and his death are only revealed in the original novel.)

The Rosenkreuz Orden (Rose Cross)

Based very loosely on the Rosicrucian, as well as bearing great similarity to the Gestapo of the Nazi Party and the Illuminati. They are the main antagonists of the Trinity Blood series. The Rosen Kreuz is a terrorist organization which consist of very powerful vampires, one powerful human (Dietrich), and a crusnik as their leader (Cain), they also seem to wear black outfits except for Cain. the black outfits seem to be a doublebreasted version of Nazi party uniforms. they contain similar elements like the red arm band, the iron cross, the belt across the top, the collar patches and the diagonal leather strap. The Organization always remains secret and always manipulates humans or vampires to do their dirty work for them. Often called the "Third Power" (the other two are likely the Vatican and the Empire), their goal is probably world domination, since they seek to make a "new order". Given that Cain's intentions seem to be destruction of the world rather than control of it, it may be that he is simply using the RCO for his own personal vendetta. "Igne Natura Renovatur Integra" (Latin for "Through Fire, Nature is Reborn Whole") is the phrase that the members of the Order use to explain their actions. The rankings are based on that of A.'.A.'..

Cain in Crusnik form

Cain Nightroad (Mein Herr Contra Mundi)

Voiced by: Suwabe Junichi (Japanese); Mike McFarland (English)

The one who stands behind the Order, he is lending them his nearly fathomless power. The motivations that drive him are unclear, but he is a being of destruction who, though not sharing the Orden's Biblical belief in Judgment Day, seems bent on the destruction of humanity and the world. In a flashback with Abel, back when they were children (maybe young teens), he is shown at least previously holding an optimistic belief in the individual's ability to shape destiny and change the world. His body was badly damaged by Seth and Abel when they dropped him from a space station, and he seems to have difficulty holding his makeshift body together. Towards the end of the series he hopes to take over Abel's body. He at one point kills Abel, but Abel is later revived using Lilith's nanomachines. (Mein Herr = German for "My lord"; Contra Mundi = Latin for "Against the World")

AKA: Crusnik 01
Codename:
Other name: Cain Nightroad, Cain Knightlord
Born: Created in 2088 AD in Berlin, Germany
Ranking: 10-1 'Ipsissimus, Order of the Rulers'
Power: Nanomachine - Crusnik 01
Background: The oldest of the Test Tube Babies, Cain is often seen as Abel's elder twin. He was the leader of the Mars Colonialization Project, called the "Red Mars Project". He was a a gentle, beloved leader. At an accident on Mars, he was killed, but Seth injected him with the Crusnik nanomachines and thus saved his life. However, he fused with the nanomachines at 100% and thus took over him,. In the war following the return of the colonialists to earth, he took the side of the Returners. As Lilith protected the humans, he called her for negotiations, but killed her instead, calling her a "bad influence" on Abel, since she was bringing out his humanity and convincing him that his hatred for the world was wrong. Abel then pushed Cain out of the space ship with the help of Seth and into the atmosphere, burning him to a pile of ash. From this ash, Cain regenerated back to his normal form, and met Isaak Fernand von Kämpfer about 900 years later. Together, they took over the Rosenkreutz Orden, until then a small, insignificant organisation in Berlin consisting of enemies of the Vatican. Through Cain and Isaak's charisma and power, the RKO grew into the world's leading terrorist organization.

File:TrinityBlood Isaak Dietrich.jpg
Isaak Fernand von Kämpfer (Panzer Magier) and Dietrich von Lohengrin (Marionettenspieler) of the Orden. Though the anime has made no mention, the novels state they are Mentor and Protege

An inventor of the Rosenkreuz Orden, he is responsible for making Cain's body (which has been permanently damaged by the punishment inflicted on him by Seth and Abel in the past). His power is creating an "electromagnetically accelerated cannon", the Arrow of Belial, which is a massive sphere of light that shoots a multitude of energy bolts at his enemy. In addition to this, Isaak has the power to summon his artificially created demons (known as dwarves and gnomes) into battle to aid him. Despite his many talents, Isaak is somewhat of a mystery and has gone by many aliases in the past. He is last shown piloting the Orden's large air ship as he leads an attack on the city of Londinium in Albion. It seems questionable whether he is human or vampire, but the second is most likely true because it is said that Dietrich is the only human member of the Order of Rosen Kreuz. (Kämpfer is German for "Fighter", Panzer is "Armor", or "Shell", usually referring to tanks, and Magier is "Magician")

AKA: Magician
Codename: Panzermagier (German for "Armor Magician", sometimes wrongly translated as "Tank" Magician)
Other name: Isaac Butler
Quote: "Our orders are not so different. Although our methods may differ, our goals are essentially the same."
Ranking: 9=2 'Magus, Order of the Magi'
Power: Lost technology, summoning monsters from another dimension, several spells for attack and defense (such as Arrow of Belial, Sword of Beelzebub - where he cuts his enemies to pieces with invisible threads - or the "Shield of Asmodai" - an almost indestructible power shield)
Background: Most of his past and exact powers is unknown. He used to study at London University under the name Isaac Butler, and was involved in an incident which killed William's fiancee and led them both to being expelled from university. Since he met Cain, Isaak is taking care of his regeneration and is leading the Orden together with him, though his true motives are unknown.

Dietrich von Lohengrin (Marionettenspieler)

Voiced by: Suzumura Kenichi (Japanese); Justin Cook (English)

Also known as the Puppet Master, he has the ability to control bodies of both human beings and vampires alike, even if the person has already died. His puppetry is actually a lost technology which uses thin string-like living fibers. When transplanted on the skin, it fuses into human nerves and sends out electrical impulses which allows the "puppeteer" to control his victim's nervous system and senses. His favorite phrase is "Igne Natura Renovatur Integra", which means "through fire, nature is reborn whole" in Latin. Unlike most members of his order, he is a Terran, and believes that his involvement with the Rosen Kreuz Orden has a great purpose for the world. He admits to being the creator of the Orden's foot soldiers, which appear to be vampire corpses seemingly reanimated by his puppetry skills. Upon failing in his mission to gain control of a rocket in Albion, Cain kills him by blasting out his chest. (Marionettenspieler means "Puppet Master" in German.)

AKA: Puppet Master
Codename: Marionettenspieler (German for "Puppeteer")
Other name: Dean Butler (fake name used to disguise him as Isaak's brother)
Quote: "Igne Natura Renovatur Integra"
Born: 3042 AD in Germanicus (modern Germany)
Ranking: 8=3 'Magister, Order of the Magi'
Power: Wires that seal and control a victim's action and perception; He is also an expert on "Lost Technology", which is very rare in the Trinity Blood universe.
Background: He is the only known human member of RCO. Dietrich joined RCO at the age of 7, and at the age of 10, he was already in a high ranking position. He is extremely beautiful, said to have the face of an angel, but the heart of the devil. Before joining the Orden, he grew up in a village in Germanicus. He was avoided for his unusual intelligence as a child, and later shunned because of his apparent tendency towards evil. This was also the reason why his father tried to kill him one day. Dietrich thus killed his entire family and lived a life of terrorizing the villagers until he met Cain and Isaak. He is known and feared for his extreme sadism, and seems to be always bored, considering the world and people as his toys. He also appears to have a love obsession toward Esther Blanchett, telling her he loves her several times. He likes saying "Esther, Esther..Esther", whenever he sees her.

As Ion's most trusted friend, he was sent to accompany Ion to negotiate with the Vatican. He worked for the Rosenkreuz and was under orders by Dietrich von Lohengrin to kill Ion Fortuna (his childhood friend) of the New Human Empire and when that failed, later plotted to assassinate the Empress. He possesses a unique ability to produce and control blue flames, even his spilled blood appears as blue flames, a trait Dietrich quite liked. Radu was supposedly 'killed' by Sister Paula, but survived the attack and, with Dietrich's help, seized his chance to take control of the Inquisitorial Department's weapons. After his death following his battle with Abel's Crusnik form, he was reanimated and controlled by Dietrich. He was finally completely destroyed when Seth transformed into her Crusnik form and disintegrated his body. (Flamberg may be a Germanised form of the French flamberge, a kind of sword that, as a form of intimidation, was forged in the shape of a tongue of flame. Radu himself shares his name with Radu cel Frumos, brother of Dracula.)

AKA: Flame Sword
Codename: Flammenschwert (German for "Flame Sword"); also referred to as Flamberg
Other name:
Born: 3045 AD
Ranking: 6=5 'Adeptus Major, Order of the Rose-Cross'
Title: Baron of Luxor
Power: Pyromancy
Background: A lower-class noble from the Empire and Ion Fortuna's foster brother, Radu is part of the Empire's extremists movement and joins the Orden in order to cause a war between the Terran and the Methuselah. Forced to kill his former partner Ion during the mission, he fails and is 'killed' by Sister Paula. With Dietrich's help he survives the attack, but is then defeated by Abel. Radu's dead body, burned by the sun, is once again retrieved and repaired by Dietrich, using artificial blood and skin. However, this form is destroyed in the Empire by Seth. For one moment, short of killing Ion, Radu's old self returned and saved Ion's life.

The Kingdom of Albion

File:TrinityBlood Albion.jpg
Albion

A prominent Kingdom that has existed long before the Armageddon, Albion is the name for England, or Great Britain. As with history, it is one of the few countries not under control or influence of the Vatican. Known for its large production of Lost Technology, Albion is second only to the Empire in terms of technological advances. Under the streets of the Capital City of Londinium lies the underground city of the Methusulah, more commonly known as the Ghetto. It is here that Albion's vampires live in isolation, away from the humans. They also are the secret behind Albion's technology, and work to produce it.

She is a colonel of the Albion Navy and a master of the sword. It was Colonel Spencer who took charge of Albion after the queen's death and greeted Pope Alessandro and Esther after their arrival in Albion. Virgil Walsh (Count of Manchester)

Virgil is a Methuselah who manages the Ghetto and the production of lost technology in Londinium. He is a noble and as such he holds a very dark secret as the workers in the Ghetto are Methuselah who are forced to manufacture the technology by the Kingdom of Albion. Virgil is also the Count of Manchester, and a privileged member of the House of Manchester. He works closely with the government to monitor the factory in the Ghetto. Despite his accepting attitude toward the fate of his fellow Methuselah in the Ghetto, not all of them are so docile. His sister Vanessa saw the unfair treatment of her kind, and became the leader of Vampire Terrorist Group, bent on helping their people escape the Ghetto. Unlike his sister, Virgil acts in a very calm and relaxed manner. It was he who was assigned to search for the heir to the throne of Albion. He was also the one who alerted Sister Esther Blanchett of her birthright as the Queen of Albion.

Vanessa Walsh

Unlike her calm and rational brother, Virgil, Vanessa Walsh is much more high strung, angry and short-tempered. Vanessa is also the leader of a Vampire Terrorist Group who attempted to capture Pope Alessandro so that they could use his safety as a bargaining chip. Despite her anger, she was really hoping to free her people, rather than harm the Pope. Vanessa learned that there were some humans who cared about their hardships when Pope Alessandro XVIII stopped Brother Petros from taking her life. She would later destroy Dietrich's death hunters to save the Pope. She would also help the AX destroy Isaak's ship by explaining the mechanics of defensive shield surrounding the aircraft.

Brigitte II

Brigitte II was the queen of Albion until her death. At the time of her death, Brigitte II prophesied the coming of Esther Blanchett, the "Star of Hope" to Virgil Walsh. Brigitte's only son Crown Prince Gilbert and heir to the throne was later assassinated by the Order. She was described as being an amazing person, who was able to keep the Methuselah from rebelling for years under her leadership.

Abel's dead lover and the first of the test tube babies created for the Mars Colonization Project by the UNASF, holding the rank below that of Abel, Cain and Seth; she was in charge of the Health Care area and usually acted as the voice of reason during the conflicts between the Nightroad siblings. When the humans infected with the vampire bacilli returned to Earth, they were mistaken for vampires and slaughtered. The two sides engaged in a great and terrible war. Angered by the deaths of the Methuselah, Seth sided with them, while Abel and Cain proceeded to slaughter the humans. In turn, Lilith sided with the humans to save them. Also, she began to convince Abel that his way would be wrong, but was murdered by Cain, who believed she was a bad influence on Abel. Her body lies in a glass capsule in an underground tomb in Rome, in which Abel mourned over her for many years. It was here that Abel would rescue a young Caterina from vampires, leading him to protect the humans as Lilith had. In the Anime, after Abel's death in Albion, Caterina would extract some Crusnik nanomachines from Lilith's body, and send Father Tres to use them to revive Abel.

The Marquis of Hungary, Gyula was the ruler of Istavan. Although the city itself appeared to be neutral territory, Gyula ruled from behind the scenes. Gyula Kadar acted as a dictator, ruling through his military police force. Upon declaring to the world that he was the supreme ruler of Istavan, his forces burned the Saint Matthias Church, where Esther had been raised in. Capturing Abel and Esther, he forced them to watch his activation of the "Star of Sorrow" (A Satellite) which could be used as a powerful weapon against other countries. After realizing that he had been used by Dietrich to start a war, he was defeated by Abel, who promptly shut down the satellite and caused it to self-destruct. In the end, Gyula used a dagger to commit suicide as he was content with dying in his own home rather than in the Vatican's dungeons. As he died, Gyula handed Esther a gun, admitting that she had the right to take vengeance on him for killing Bishop Laura. She refused, and comforted him as he died.

Title: Marquis of Hungary

After being rescued by Father Hugue, she was captured again and interrogated by the vampires using a machine which allowed her to access her lost memories. Sister Agnes would later witness Father Hugue's fight in Karel's arena against a monstrous beast. She repayed her life debt by throwing him his weapon, allowing him to defeat the beast and slaughter the vampires, including Karel who attempted to kill her. Seemingly an ordinary young girl, Wendy is actually an artificial fairy-like vampire who gained her powers through Professor James Barrie's experimentations. When Abel and Leon came to Never Island, she attempted to kill them. She was able to manipulate the other experimented children on the island through use of a bell and the Tinker Bell system, and she also had the ability to fly until the bell was destroyed. She attempted to kill her friend Peter, but despite this, he still cared about her. He even pleaded with Father Leon not to kill her. Seeing the error of her ways, Wendy and the other children would eventually be sent to Albion and she and Peter would help Father Leon during his mission in the Ghetto.
