Storm Radio Logo

Student radio

The college has run its own radio station since 1995, named Storm Radio. The shows are presented by students from both years and cover a wide range of tastes in music, while the station itself functions and is treated by the music industry as any other UK commercial radio station. The station can be picked up on 999am / 999mw in the college area and across the IT network in most college locations.

Smoking policy

The college currently operates a permissive policy towards smoking by students on campus. A new purpose-built smoking area exists to the south-east of the college site. The rationale is given as that of containment, ie that if students were not allowed to smoke then they would smoke anyway and in less desirable or illegal places.

Trivia

The College is located on the former site of the Gilberd School.

Big Brother's Little Brother presenter Dermot O'Leary is a former student of the Sixth Form College. Puerto Rican revolutionaries Juan Chapela and Tomás Francís also attended shortly after the college's opening.
