The game starts with a mysterious set of enemies who enter the ruins of The Mountain of Malefor, where Spyro and Cynder remain frozen in crystal after their fight with Gaul. The enemies break open the crystal, put glowing green snakes, whose effects are to keep Spyro and Cynder together at all times, on the two dragons' necks and take them away, leaving Sparx, who awakens moments later in the palm of the Hunter of Avalar, who observed the whole scenario unfold from the shadows. Meanwhile, Spyro and Cynder awaken in a dark area, wondering what has happened to them. Because Spyro and Cynder have been trapped in a crystal for three years, they've grown up a lot since The Eternal Night.

The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon is the third and final installment in The Legend of Spyro trilogy as well as the tenth anniversary game that is set to release on October 21, 2008 for Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS. Although Krome Studios developed the last two Legend of Spyro games, Etranges Libellules will develop the console editions of Dawn of the Dragon, while Tantalus Media are doing the Nintendo DS version.

Gameplay

This is the first Spyro game that a player can fly at any time they want (free-fly mode). The game also features a co-op (two player) play with Cynder, which introduces players to drop-in/drop-out with the cooperative feature. The co-op feature allows players to have the option of completing the game as either Spyro or Cynder, also giving them the power to switch between Spyro and Cynder, giving them more freedom to explore Spyro's world in completely new ways. It was confirmed that Spyro retains his commandments of fire, electricity, earth and ice, while Cynder controls poison, wind, shadow and fear. The powers were given to her when she was controlled by the Dark Master, in addition to being faster but weaker. She is seen breathing fire in "A New Beginning", a power she can only access in her giant form. Along with the standard power ups that gems will bring, Spyro and Cynder can now both equip dragon armor in pieces that they find. They also have another feature called: "melee combos" which means the players can do a number of hit combos to their enemies and the more the hit combos, the more experienced Blue Gems the players will earn. There's also Red gems, that give the dragons more health. The Green gems give the dragons breath energy, that let the dragons use there powers. You'll run out when the green magic bar is empty. There's also purple gems, (also known as fury gems) that let the dragons do a devestating move. You need a certain amount of purple gems to do this. The Prologue level is where Spyro and Cynder are wearing two green glowing snakes on their necks and it will attach to each other to be stuck together at all times and they have to defeat a certain amount of foes before they are set free. The first level is called the "The Enchanted Forest, where the "catacombs" first attack the dragons. The main enemy of this game is called the "Dark Master" who was the first purple dragon. The game is scheduled to out on October 20th 2008.

Plot

In this epic culmination, or "climax" game, Spyro, Sparx and Cynder wake up in the future. In the final chapter of the trilogy, players find Spyro teaming up with Cynder to face and defeat Malefor, the Dark Master, hopefully saving the Dragon World from evil and darkness that is plaguing it.

New characters

Malefor, the Dark Master and Hunter of Avalar will make their first full appearance in this game. There has been no other information given if other characters from the series will be included. Though a website http://lair.spyrothedragon.com/dawnofthedragon/us/ names some of the characters included in this game, but not the chronicler character, this website does not list all of the characters in the game, so this website is incorrect. Until they update the website showing all of the characters in this game.
